PRACTICE EDUCATION RESEARCH
I would like to invite you, as a Clinical Manager / Practice Owner / Podiatrist to take part in an online anonymous survey. The survey explores current challenges and opportunities around clinical placements in Podiatric Medicine, with the aim of developing strategies to support future generations of podiatrists.

SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT 📢📢
Dr. John Steinberg is a Professor and full-time faculty member in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington DC. He is the System Chief for Podiatric Surgery at MedStar Health. He is Co-Director of the Center for Wound Healing at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital where his practice emphasizes multidisciplinary resident and student teaching. Dr. Steinberg is the Program Director for the MedStar Health Georgetown University Podiatric Surgery Residency Program and a faculty member for the Georgetown Diabetic Limb Salvage Research Fellowship. He is a Past President of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Steinberg is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. Dr. Steinberg earned his BS in Biology and DPM from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in 1995. Upon graduation, Dr. Steinberg entered a three-year surgical residency at the Inova Fairfax Podiatric Residency Program and then completed a one-year Diabetic Foot / Limb Salvage Fellowship with the University of Texas in San Antonio. He was a member of the full-time faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio from 1999 to 2004 before returning to the Washington DC area. Dr. Steinberg has authored over 200 papers and recently published his first textbook entitled “Functional Limb Salvage: The Multidisciplinary Team Approach”. He has lectured extensively on diabetic limb salvage nationally and internationally, and is actively involved in clinical research and publication.

Mr. Adam McIlwaine-Thompson
Mr. Adam McIlwaine-Thompson is a lecturer (Above the Bar) in Podiatric Medicine at the University of Galway, with a clinical and academic focus on musculoskeletal ultrasound, lower limb biomechanics, and interdisciplinary sports medicine. He holds fellowships with the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow), the American College of Podiatric Medicine, and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine International. His doctoral research explores the role of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the context of systemic disease, with a particular interest in novel risk stratification.
Adam has over a decade of clinical experience working within professional rugby, soccer, and elite athletics, alongside roles in defence medicine. He has been actively involved in progressing clinical practice within the profession and contributed to the development of a successful business case accepted by the Department of Health to support podiatric access to prescription only medicines in Ireland. His academic work centres on embedding advancing clinical practice into undergraduate and postgraduate education, ensuring graduates are equipped and inspired by evolving roles in contemporary podiatric medicine.
At conference, Adam will present on “Atypical Calf Pain in a Professional Soccer Player: Integrating Point-of-Care Ultrasound with Clinical and Mechanical Reasoning.”

Martin Fox
Martin works in the first NHS commissioned, podiatry-led, community lower limb vascular service, in Manchester; providing early identification, diagnosis and best clinical management of people with peripheral arterial disease, in partnership with primary care, vascular teams and others.
He presents lectures and workshops locally, nationally and internationally on podiatry and peripheral vascular disease, is active on social media and writes journal articles and book chapters on these themes.
He is currently an elected council member with the Royal College of Podiatry, serving a second term and chairing the clinical senate committee. He has been awarded fellowships by the RCPSG and RCPod for his role in developing, delivering and promoting vascular podiatry within the profession and with other key vascular stakeholders.

Michelle Hanlon M.Sc., B.A.
Michelle holds a Master's degree in Psychological Science from Trinity College Dublin and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychological Studies and English from the University of Galway. Since graduating, she has gained valuable experience working at the Centre for Pain Research for a year, followed by three years working as a researcher in the School of Psychology in Galway. During this time, Michelle contributed to several projects that examined the psychological impact of living with long-term conditions, factors that can influence quality of life and treatment adherence, and behavioural and self-management interventions for chronic disease.
Michelle has authored several peer-reviewed publications in the field of psychology, chronic disease, and behaviour change, and has presented her work at both national and international conferences. Currently, she is a final-year PhD student on a HRB collaborative doctoral programme (DFD-PRIMO, University of Galway) that aims to train a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to PhD level in order to provide a strong evidence base for prevention and treatment options for people with diabetes-related foot problems. For her thesis, Michelle is investigating the emotional and psychosocial factors affecting individuals with diabetes-related foot ulcers and assessing the suitability, acceptability, and potential benefits of a psychological intervention.

SPEAKER ANNOUNCMENT 📢📢
Paul qualified in 1990 and gained an MSc (by research) in 2000. He completed a PhD in 2012 looking at the social construction of neuropathic pain. He is currently the EVP of Spectral AI. Most recently, he was Interim Chief Executive at the Royal College of Podiatry and prior to that he was the College’s National Clinical Director where he led the development and implementation of the Clinical Leadership and Education agenda of the Organization’s five-year strategic plan.
Before starting at the Royal College, He was a consultant podiatrist, he led a team of clinical specialists and developed an integrated system wide approach to foot care. He maintains a clinical role as an honorary consultant podiatrist. He has presented nationally and internationally and published widely in many peer reviewed journals. Previously Paul was the Chair of Foot in Diabetes U.K. He is on the editorial board of a range of journals and has been appointed associate editor of the Diabetic Foot Journal. He has a Fellowship from the Royal College of Podiatry and was awarded the meritorious award in 2014 for services to the profession. He also received a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Paul was appointed a Visiting Professor of Tissue Viability at Birmingham City University in 2018. In his time at The Royal College, he led many projects including, Workforce and Educational reform, HCPC annotation of podiatric surgery in England, the development of the Advanced Clinical Practice Framework in lower limb viability and the Diabetes Commissioning Tool Kit. He has also led the implementation of a new learning management system and created a suite of continuing professional development modules for the profession.
