UrbanLab Galway is a home for research into urban life in all its variety and the future of Galway

We had a wonderful time at this weekend's Climate Action Fair as part of the Climate Inspirations Festival.

A big thank you to Donncha from the Galway Volunteer Centre for all his hard work organizing the Climate Action Fair. It was an inspiring showcase of the incredible efforts by community groups working to make Galway a better place for current and future generations.

We're also grateful to everyone who stopped by for conversations and participated in our creative visioning exercises. We were inspired by the depth of knowledge and creative ideas people shared about transforming our urban spaces. 17/09/2025

We are down to our final week of hosting SCCUL and partners community consultation on the UrbanLab mobile app.

We have been receiving brilliant feedback so far about peoples experience of living in the area, what supports the area might need and some wonderful ideas as to how Ballybane could be made better for residents and in the broader context of the city. You have the opportunity to view all the contributions so far within the app once you contribute yourself.

If you haven’t shared your thoughts yet, now’s the time! The more voices we gather, the clearer picture we can create of the community’s needs and aspirations.

The UrbanLab app is available to download in the Play Store and the App Store.

For the next 3 weeks the UrbanLab mobile app will facilitate a Community Consultation that SCCUL Enterprises and partner organisations are running. This consultation seeks to gather vital local voices and perspectives on what life is like in the Ballybane area and how it could be made better.

We are delighted that the UrbanLab mobile app can provide a digital platform for this community engagement. We hope that by using a tool like this, it can offer a greater amount of people the opportunity to have their say in shaping the future of their places and spaces.

We are down to the last week of Salthill Focused Questions on our Mobile App (for now!)

Your ideas and aspirations will be put together in a report showcasing what the people of Galway need and want, for the future of this very special public space. Now is the time to have your say.

Once the Leisureland focused app questions finish up you still have the opportunity to share any ideas or comments you have within the Insights section of our app.

UrbanLab Galway, an initiative of University of Galway, has unveiled a perspective-shifting anamorphic art installation in Salthill Park, Galway, as part of the Architecture At The Edge festival.

The installation, Samhlú Salthill, is a canvas for reimagining urban spaces and presents a glimpse of the potential future allowing the viewer to place themselves in the space looking to Galway Bay and to the well-known Leisureland complex and how they might look in decades to come.

Best experienced in person, the installation runs daily.
