Skillnet Ireland's 2025 Annual Report highlights the impact of industry-led workforce development, with 23,142 businesses investing in upskilling through Skillnet Ireland programmes, supporting 84,515 workers across the Irish economy.

As part of the Skillnet Ireland network, we're proud to deliver industry-led upskilling that provides businesses in Media in the Galway and western region with the skills they need to innovate, grow and stay competitive.

We are pleased to publish our 2025 Annual Report, which shows significant buy in from Irish businesses in upskilling.

Launching the Annual Report, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD said: “Skillnet Ireland’s 2025 Annual Report highlights the strong commitment of both Government and enterprise to investing in the skills and capabilities of our workforce. The engagement of more than 23,000 businesses in Skillnet Ireland programmes during the year demonstrates a clear recognition that skills development is essential to driving productivity, growth and competitiveness. As our economy continues to evolve, supporting lifelong learning and workforce development is more important than ever.

Through Skillnet Ireland, we are helping businesses of all sizes to respond to changing skills needs, embrace new technologies and seize emerging opportunities. This Government remains committed to ensuring that enterprises across every sector and region have access to the talent and expertise they need to grow, compete and succeed.”

The recent collaboration between Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet and Gréasán na Meán Skillnet delivered what was a unique training programme for members of Ireland’s creative arts and media industries - the Silicone Skin Painting Workshop.

Led by visual storyteller and effects artist Paul McDonnell Design at Stiúideo Fia in Lettermore, Co Galway, it brought together emerging and established creatives for a rare opportunity to explore professional silicone painting techniques for hyper-realistic human skin.

The success of the partnership between Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet and Gréasán na Meán Skillnet reaffirmed the value of collaboration in strengthening Ireland’s skills ecosystem. Through this joint effort, participants gained technical expertise and the inspiration and confidence to apply it in their own artistic practice.

A new Irish-language journalism training course led by TG4, in partnership with Gréasán na Meán Skillnet, is underway in Connemara, with 17 participants from across Ireland taking part.
Participants will also receive instruction in podcasting, mobile journalism (MOJO), voice and presentation skills, cybersecurity for journalists, and Irish-language writing for news.
