Unpopular opinion: an A student can still be completely unprepared for life after school. 📋

Grades measure how well a teen absorbs what they're given. They don't measure whether that teen can:

• Set a goal nobody assigned them
• Manage the first money they ever earn
• Ask for something and handle hearing "no"
• Bounce back when a plan falls apart

Those are the skills that decide the first five years after school — and not one of them appears on a report card.

We're not against good grades. We're against grades being the ONLY scoreboard.

Try this at dinner tonight. It takes 3 minutes. 🪜

It's called the Why Ladder, and it turns a vague teenage wish into a real goal.

Step 1: Ask your teen what they want. ("I want to make money this summer.")

Step 2: Ask "why?" — and then ask "why?" again to whatever they answer. Three whys deep, minimum.

"Why do you want money?" → "To buy a better laptop."
"Why a better laptop?" → "So I can edit videos properly."
"Why videos?" → "Because I actually love making them."

Step 3: Now you're not talking about pocket money anymore. You're talking about what they actually want to build — and THAT is a goal a teenager will work for.

The wish is the top rung. The real goal is three rungs down. 🪜
