Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon Today’s school was opened in 1979. That this is a relatively small all-girls school brings with it many advantages.

Despite many changes through the years, the school now stands as proudly and as firmly within the traditions of its foundress, Catherine McAuley, as at any other period of its history. The girls have the opportunity of individual attention at all times. A sense of community within the school is fostered and newcomers find that this eases their transition from primary or other second level schools.

The final chapter of Scoil Mhuire came to a close today as long serving teacher and Principal Seosaimhín Uí Dhomhnalláin retired after a 45 year working career.
Seosaimhín arrived in Scoil Mhuire in 1982 as a young Gaeilge and Career Guidance teacher and ever since, she has been unwavering in commitment to the success of the school. As Principal since 2002, she diligently carried the baton of the Mercy Sisters and viewed Scoil Mhuire as so much more than bricks and mortar, but as a place where the values of Catherine McCauley would be championed and woven into the very fabric of the school.
Over the years her commitment to excellence shaped Scoil Mhuire. She fostered a sense of belonging in the students who were encouraged to strive for their best, dream high and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Her support of students during their successes and encouragement during struggles, extended beyond the classroom and will be lovingly remembered.
In her final speech today Seosaimhín paid tribute to the Scoil Mhuire family who were the backdrop to happy times and great support in difficult times. She thanked staff members for sharing her journey and remembered dearly departed staff with fondness. Students were praised as 'the beating heart of our school' and admired for their 'ambition and commitment, their capacity to look out for one another and care for the less fortunate in society'. Gratitude was extended to parents for their' wonderful suppport and the local community for embracing and supporting our school'. She wished a long and happy retirement to Mary Lyons, CBS Principal, as she too bade farewell to a long teaching career today. Finally Seosaimhín wished Ennistymon Community School every success and rich fulfilment into the future.
A true measure of any leader is centred in the success of the school. We are most grateful to you Seosaimhín for your leadership, tenacity and the countless hours you dedicated to making Scoil Mhuire a better place. It was a very busy life, nurturing Scoil Mhuire and moulding a community of students. Thank you for the gift of yourself to Scoil Mhuire, your energy, enthusiasm, seeds of wisdom and inspiration and for passing on the highest standards. Your impact and contribution to girls' education in Ennistymon will not be forgotten.
On behalf of staff, parents and the community we wish you every blessing and hope you now get the time to pause, enjoy your family and the beauty of time itself. Rath Dé ort. Just inside the front door of Scoil Mhuire, a large wall display of plaques, cups and trophies heaved with history of past successes. Many of these have now been passed on to relevant students who were involved in these achievements. We have, remaining, a collection of Duaiseanna Náisiúnta - All-Ireland trophies, won during a golden era of extraordinary success, when Scoil Mhuire was the school to beat in Slógadh Náisiúnta.
These memorabilia of history serve as a reminder of the incredible talent of our students. They are a symbol of journeys undertaken, of collective memories and achievements that shaped students' lives. Above all, they are a testament to the very talented Mary O'Loghlin who was the driving force behind all these victories, an incredible achievement for a small all-girls' rural school in Co. Clare.
All-Ireland wins don't come easy and we, who were involved in choirs, dance drama and ballad groups of this era, appreciate and are grateful for the countless hours Mary O'Loghlin spent after school and at weekends to leave us with an extraordinary musical legacy. Her passion for music and her ability to inspire the joy of self-expression through music, ignited a spark in us that would shape our lives in ways we could never have imagined. Thank you Mary, for your unwavering dedication and your belief in students' talents.

A lovely message sent to us by a past student.....I read your beautiful yet poignant tribute of your final day within the hallowed walls of Scoil Mhuire… memories were sparked.. that day when we transitioned from the old convent building, meeting my lifelong friend, singing in the choir… I have such gratitude in my heart for the start you gave me..this song sparks so many emotions… if these old walls could speak… God bless this ending and this new beginning…

Today was a very poignant and emotional day for us all as the last student left the Scoil Mhuire building on a sun kissed afternoon. While the final hours ticked away, a solemn procession unfolded as the last remnants of a once vibrant school were carefully catalogued, boxed and carried away. A profound sense of gratitude and nostalgia filled the air as Mrs Donnellan, former Principal, left the school for the last time flanked by a guard of honour. Inside, the school echoed with emptiness, the sound of laughter and whispered secrets faded into oblivion and the air was heavy with a sense of finality. The walls, once adorned with photos and accolades that bore witness to the dedication of past students, are now bare, waiting in silence for the end. Memories hold sway over the heartstrings today, the echoes of laughter and camaraderie, the sounds of sweet choral singing, the sunlight streaming through the central area, the voices of those we have lost, all linger like ghosts as the echoes of history fade into dust.

Scoil Mhuire has stood as a beacon of education in the Mercy tradition for generations of girls and has left an indelible mark on the Ennistymon landscape. Generations of young women were empowered to realise their full potential with their minds ignited and dreams nurtured within these walls. From the academic realm to the realm of arts, sports and extracurricular activities, the school provided a platform for students to excel. From the laughter filled classrooms to the inspiring musical performances, from the nerve wracking exams to the jubilant victories on the sportsfield, each moment holds a special place in the hearts of Scoil Mhuire girls. As we say goodbye to Scoil Mhuire, we express our deepest gratitude to the Principals and teachers past and present and to the parents and the community who have dedicated themselves to creating an environment of growth, empowerment and excellence. We wish to thank all of you too who have liked and shared our posts over the years, contributing in no small way to our success.

In the coming days this building will be demolished but the Scoil Mhuire spirit will remain and will continue to resonate in the lives of all those who have been fortunate enough to be part of its journey.

Congratulations to Scoil Mhuire Leaving Cert 2023 students, Jane McInerney and Caoimhe McMahon, who this week were awarded University of Galway Excellence Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to high achieving entrants based on Leaving Cert 2023 results and Jane and Caoimhe were two of 91 recipients from 62 schools nationally.

Today we celebrate the outstanding results of the Leaving Cert 2023 class. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Your excellent results mark the culmination of years of hard work and determination and also marks the final chapter in Scoil Mhuire. Remember that the spirit of Scoil Mhuire lives on in each of you. You are the embodiment of our values and traditions and you carry that legacy with you as you move forward.
As we bid farewell to Scoil Mhuire, we express our deepest gratitude to the teachers, staff, parents, and community members who have dedicated themselves to creating an environment of growth, empowerment, and excellence. Their tireless efforts have shaped generations of young women, fostering a legacy that will continue to shine brightly in the years to come.
Once again, congratulations girls. You should be immensely proud of the exceptional results you've earned. The world is yours for the taking and we can't wait to see what you will accomplish. Carry the values, friendships and lessons learned from Scoil Mhuire in your hearts and spread the spirit of empowerment, resilience and compassion in your endeavours.
