Building community and celebrating stories sits right at the heart of what we do 🫶

Our Artist in Focus for September is the incredibly talented Kayla M. Martell SWA ✨👏

Kayla has been part of the Schoolhouse family for many years now, first as a student and now as a tutor! Kayla is a prolific artist ( and sold out Author!!) seldom found without her art materials ❤️ As you can see Kayla finds the magic in every setting and brings that to her work and her teaching. If you would like to learn from Kayla you can join her in studio or online this September.

Delighted to be welcoming Patrick Byrnes back for the second time this year for Alla Prima Portraiture Painting: “Colour & Light” ✨

Learn to paint a portrait that feels alive not just accurate, but full of light and personality. That’s the heart of this workshop with Patrick Byrnes.

Over four days you’ll paint four different live models, working with a simple 8-colour palette that takes the guesswork out of mixing. You’ll leave with a real, repeatable process: how to draw with confidence, simplify what you see, mix colour rationally, and model form with light. Patrick will teach you this process broken down into steps that actually make sense.

Morning demos will walk you through the “why” before you pick up a brush, so nothing feels like guesswork. Then it’s your turn. But don’t worry, participants will receive one-on-one feedback from Patrick throughout tailored to exactly where you’re at.
By the end of the week, you’ll have four finished portrait sketches and a way of seeing and painting you can keep building on.
