This 4th class girl has been working on a super project this month with Mrs Binions. She made raspberry jam!

This was a long and tricky process as she had to find and read a recipe, make a shopping list ✅, go to the shop 🏬 with her teacher, buy the ingredients 🍓 make sure she had enough money 💶 follow the recipe, make the jam, put it in jars 🫙 and wait patiently for it to set! This was a combination of English, Maths, Science, Home Economics and SPHE all mixed into one project 😂

She’s not finished yet though. In order to taste raspberry jam she might need to make something else to spread the jam on……. 🍞🧐

More news to follow 😉

Friday was the third day of our series of choral workshops with Dr Jeffrey Cox, organist and musical director of St Mary's Church , Bunclody Parish Choir, and this week Mrs Hobson joined the practice as she’s going to accompany us on the night.

The song the children are learning will be sung proudly with the Parish Choir on Tuesday 3rd November. Some members of the Parish Choir will come to school next week to practise singing with the children.

Next week is our last workshop and we’ve prepared Dr Jeffrey for a very strange experience as next week his children’s choir will look very odd - as it’s dress up day! 👻🧙‍♀️🐶🕺🏻🤖🦖🧚‍♀️

On Friday Mrs Binions led assembly. She talked to the children about grumbling and asked them when people might grumble. The children had lots of ideas and examples 😂 Then she told them a story about a time people in the Bible were on a long journey and were grumbling. She told us how God looked after them giving them manna, just enough for their needs, not too little or too much but just the right amount.
We sang a new song too all about gratitude!

We done to birthday girl Rebecca in 4th class!

Canon Trevor was back! His boot is off and we were delighted to see Canon Trevor back to assembly with us after his surgery. He told us about the Harvest service in Kilrush this Sunday at 3:00pm as well as the family service in Clonegal at 10:15am.
In Clonegal the children can dress as health workers 👨🏼‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️ and Rang Rang will be a patient 😂🦧 to celebrate St Luke’s Day.

Boys’ Brigade starts up again on Wednesday at 6:30om in the Sunday School with an exciting first night for all boys of primary school age.

Well done to this week’s fantastic Students of the Week:
Evania Suresh
Luke Deacon
Rebecca Rothwell
Bailey Jacob

5th and 6th class were assessing each others gross motor skills that they have been developing in PE so far this year.
They focused on the skills of throwing, catching and striking a ball with a hand.

Mrs Hobson's class added to their Hallowe'en art last Friday. We made pictures using the sticks we had collected. We made marks on our black card using chalk and smudged it to create a misty background. We arranged our sticks on the card and stuck them down. Once again, we added in googly eyes to make our pictures spooktacular! 🧛🏼

On Tuesday Junior and Senior Infants headed down to Bunclody Library where we met Amy Devereux the author of 'A Wexford Fairytale'.
Amy introduced the characters to us and then read her book to us. Afterwards we drew a map of all the places where Bláthnaid, the beast and the witch went to around County Wexford. We had such a great time at the library. Thank you to Bunclody Library for hosting us and to Amy Devereux!

Carrigduff NS opened its doors to pupils in the Autumn of 1976 following the amalgamation of a number of small local Church of Ireland schools. Next month we celebrate our school’s 50th anniversary with a special service on Tuesday 3rd November at 7:30pm in St Mary’s Church Bunclody. Bishop Adrian Wilkinson and Canon Trevor Sargent will be with us as we mark this school birthday. The children will be taking part in many ways, with the 1st - 4th class pupils involved in a unique choir experience singing with the St Mary’s Parish Choir. They’ve been rehearsing for weeks!

On the night we will have an opportunity to thank families, staff and board members for their support over 50 years. We will also have an opportunity to thank Canon Trevor for his special and thoughtful relationship with the school before he leaves at the end of November.

We would love if you could join us.

We have email addresses for pupils from 2020 and will be sending emails. If you know of a family who are connected to school who may not have heard about the special service please share and invite them. All are welcome!

In Science Mrs Hobson's class were learning about shadows and how they are created. Luckily last Wednesday the sun was shining so we headed out to play a game of tag your shadow and your partner's shadow.

Then we got into pairs and posed while our partner drew around our shadow! Finally we created a long line of shadows as a group!

In preparation for Hallowe'en Junior and Senior Infants have begun making decorations and props. In between the showers we went outside to collect thick and thin sticks. We came back inside where we chose our favourite stick and decorated it with pipe cleaners and sequins to make a witch's wand. Afterwards, we made mummies. We wrapped white wool around a stick and added googly eyes. We are looking forward to making more Hallowe'en decorations in the coming days! 👻 🎃

Today our school was closed due to industrial action. We were sad to be and see teachers and SNAs protesting outside their own schools, a first for Irish schools.

Thank you to those who joined us in solidarity. Thank you to all the passers by who supported us and to the many who stopped and offered to bring us coffee - the school staff’s reputation for drinking coffee is very strong! 😂 We appreciated the kind thoughts.

Ní neart go cur le chéile…….
