Cow House Studios

Cow House Studios We're an art studio located in County Wexford, Ireland. We run an art program for teens in the summer, and a residency for artists in the autumn.

Cow House Studios is a progressive artist-run space set in the farmland of county wexford Ireland. A productive farm to this day, the 180 acres of land provides an authentic and inspirational backdrop, while facilitating multidisciplinary practices for artists in residence and students, focusing on cross-cultural learning and creative exchange.

Cork day trip! Delighted to see Sian’s work in “Panorma Europa” at the Glucksmans Gallery. Earlier we visited the majestic Gaulstown Dolmen and enjoyed lunch at the Marina Market.

A coastal walk from Slade to tour Hook Lighthouse; the world’s oldest intact working lighthouse, which evolved from a 5th century monk-preserved bacon of fire.
And at Waterford’s Medieval Museum, their tour highlighted a special collection of vestments of Italian silk embroidered in thread made of gold. To protect them from Cromwellian forces during the siege of Waterford in 1650 they were hidden underground in the medieval cathedral. There, they remained for 123 years until they were rediscovered in a chest during the demolition of the cathedral.

It was such a pleasure to welcome back Aoife Cassidy who participated in our very first residency in 2008. Then, a recent graduate exhibiting at the Tulca Arts Festival, Aoife was invited alongside three artist friends to come for 10 weeks so we could iron out the creases and learn the ropes of running a residency.
This June joined by another wonderful crew; Christina Williams, Lauren Frost, Mollie Tilley, Zainab Hussein & Shane Lynam; it was special to share the space again and know after these years; that Cow House still has the same essence .

Such wonderful energy during the last few weeks of our May Open Residency. It was really special to host Chris & Joan Fox; Joan taught Frank when he was 10 years old and Chris, all through Frank’s high school years. It is in no small part to Chris’ support and guidance that Frank pursued a life in the arts, and him being on residency at Cow House felt like a genuine full circle moment.

Amidst delicious leisurely lunches, long chats and lots of sunshine; Kat relished her time in the darkroom, Muriel & Atlanta ventreued to holy wells near and far, Alfred captivated us with his sculpting and casting, Carson curiously poured milk into the dark of the pond, Cheryl enjoyed chats with neighbours, Lisa soaked up the studio and sauna, Aishling connected with forest, Chris painted and played, Joan lead a brilliant sculpture game with Art Club, and Richard created a beautiful place to rest by the pond from a quartz boulder.
