Getting Started as a Creative Writer and Staying Creative in The Long Run
Six Weeks - Two hours per week - times can be decided - morning and evening availability. Suitable for five and up to ten participants
No prior writing experience is required – Simply the desire to write. Suitable for beginners and for those who have some writing experience.
Designed to help you recognise the unique experiences of your own life and unleash your inner-writer creativity on these experiences to write memoir, fiction, auto-fiction, poems or short stories..
Introduces you to Writing Craft and Story Devices that help bring your stories alive and in your own Unique Voice. Explores finding theme and style.
The course aims to give you the tools to carry on writing after completion.
Course Outline
Six-Week Course - Two hours per week.
Course Structure & Content Phase 1,2,3,
Introductions. Rapport. Confidence building. Generating material. Kick-starting your imagination. Getting started as a creative writer. Cliché proofing. Natural writing. Redundancy with the aspiration that participants will be able to continue independently with their writing.
Phase 1 - Week One To Two
Introduction, Rapport, general writing advice and technique introduced. Group and solitary exercises. Getting your experience and imagination to work for your writing. Generating material. A little feedback. Writing examples. Recommend reading and links to texts.
Phase 2 – Week Three to Four
Continuation of technique sharing. Generating material from participants. Cliché proofing, editing and natural writing. Crafting and building story, structure and plot, Feedback. Introduce publishing ideas/options, competitions, internet and multimedia as an outlet for writing.
Phase 3 – Week Five to Six
Begin wrapping up stories/work generated, fine-tuning as best we can, editing and practice, practice practice and more practice, utilising techniques learnt. Completion of at least one piece of work, you are happy with. Redundancy and hopefully you will feel you have the tools to keep going, as an independent chronicler of your own or somebody else's story!
Techniques introduced will be illustrated by reference to texts from a variety of great writers; classical and contemporary. Links to these tests will be sent by email to you as well as notes each week.
