Our Shining Stars have been busy little animal explorers this week — discovering what different animals eat, how they move, and the sounds they make. Rising Stars, this week have been focused on empowering the children and building their confidence. They have been imitating emotions in the mirror, noticing how their faces change. They have engaged in fun drama activities, helping them to develop their theory of mind. This develops in early childhood and is an important skill aiding empathy, relationships and self-regulation. After taking part in these exercises, the children, unaided and without any adult prompt, chose to work together to build a bridge across the "lava" - The bridge was still being built as the children were crossing. It was a beautiful moment to watch as the children took care of each other, demonstrating their kindness and empathy. Rising Stars have also added a morning chant to their daily routine where they remind themselves and each other of their brilliance. It lifts all of our spirits!

This week our Shining Stars have been busy mastering some of the big life skills that help children feel capable, confident, and ready for every new challenge. They’ve learned to pour their own water, clean up spills with ease, and are now working hard on putting on their own shoes. Shoes are tricky because it takes patience, practice, and lots of determination to learn this one.

These everyday skills build the foundations for self‑care, problem‑solving, and a strong sense of “I can do it!”. With this comes belief in their own abilities and a willingness to try the next challenge.

This week our Twinkle Stars have been busy building their gross motor skills through play. They’ve been climbing, scootering, dancing, sliding, and taking those all‑important moments to rest and reset.

These exercises are innate in children, as they take part just for fun. They are also the foundations for everything that comes next. As the children grow, these skills will support balance, coordination, body awareness, and confidence in everyday tasks like running, jumping, sports, self‑care, and even sitting comfortably for learning.

Every time they play in this way, they are becoming more strong and more capable.

Our youngest group may not fully understand all the excitement around the Harvest Festival and scarecrows just yet — but they certainly know how to enjoy the fun that comes with it!

This week, the Twinkle Stars loved exploring the hay, using it to make little houses, beds and “food” for their farm animals, and stuffing it into the scarecrow’s clothes to see if they could make him stand up.

They also worked hard on their gross motor skills, carefully balancing as they walked the plank in their obstacle course and finishing with jumps so high you would have to be impressed. It was a week of using their imaginations, developing skills and having fun. Another week has passed for them, and with each week it is evident that their sense of safety and confidence has grown along with their bond with the amazing Twinkle Stars educators!

Our Shining Stars had an exciting week creating a scarecrow — proudly named Scary the Scarecrow! What a name chosen by the children themselves.

With the whole village buzzing for the Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival, the class explored autumn colours, textures, and traditions, taking part in activities that celebrated our local community and culture. And because the educators have spotted a real love for sensory play, the children were given plenty of chances to get wonderfully messy as they stuffed hay, explored materials, and brought Scary to life.

This week in Rising Stars, fun, enjoyment and secure relationships were as always at the centre of everything that happened. The children explored a strange new musical instrument that needed teamwork to operate properly. They took part in yoga, a moment of calm and gross motor skills development. They have added a sand area, which similar to the creative art area, is always open and available to the children. There was evident S.T.E.M. learning happening as we noticed a large construction of wooden pieces in the garden, along with a child-designed train made from ride-on toys. The more toys added on the more it took to pedal the front tricycle! For their cooking experience this week, the children equally enjoyed the making of and the eating of a de-constructed banoffee pie. And to round off the week, our chef Mark brought the children a giant bale of hay so that they could make a scarecrow for the Harvest Festival. They enjoyed the hay in the way that only children can by flinging it all around them, making hay angels on the floor and pouring hay on themselves and each other. As adults we have so much to learn from children. They remind us to get the maximum joy from every opportunity. Rising Stars named their Scarecrow Yoshi and he is perfect.

🎨 Rising Stars & Their Always‑Open Art Table 🎨

Our older children in Rising Stars have spent the week getting to know their brand‑new 24/7, always‑open art table — a space they can wander to whenever inspiration strikes. And what a journey it’s been.

Day 1 was pure experimentation. Every colour was mixed together “to see what happens,” resulting in page after page of glorious browns, deep greens and inky blacks. The table looked like a scientist’s lab… or possibly a paint factory explosion!

But as the week went on, something lovely began to happen spontaneously. The table started to look less chaotic and more like a real working art studio — splatters of creativity, tools left mid‑project, and tiny masterpieces drying in every corner.

Even more impressive was that the children began choosing not to mix all the colours together. They kept their paints separate, selected brushes with purpose, and their artwork became more detailed, more thoughtful, more intricate. The children sought paper towels and cups of water to clean their brushes between colours.

And the responsibility? Outstanding.
Every afternoon, they cleaned their brushes, washed their palettes, and left the table ready for a fresh start the next morning — a true community art space cared for by its young artists.

It’s been a week of creativity, independence, and growing artistic identity. Rising Stars, you’ve turned a simple table into a studio full of magic. 🌟
