Killea Boys in the Rare Oul Times (words by Willie Coogan)
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights decline,
We’ll remember Killea Boys in the rare oul times.
Taught great songs and stories, by teachers that were cool,
The sporting tales of glories, that once was Killea School,
The science awards and quizzes, enchanting children's rhymes,
That once was Killea Boys, in the Rare Oul Times.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights decline,
We’ll remember Killea Boys in the rare oul times.
We’re proud of Killea Boys School, and of its history
Our pupils, Boards, and parents, Eileen our secretary
Book fairs they were super, thanks Amanda and Caroline
New books to peak our interest, we were reading all the time
And we went down to the priests field, to train for many teams,
Athletics, gaelic, hurling, acting out our boyhood dreams.
When we took on the bigger schools in wind and hail and cold
Then we’d go into the RSC, we’d come away with gold.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights decline,
We’ll remember Killea Boys in the rare oul times.
The years have passed so quickly, like water down a drain
As Dunmore keeps on changing and nothing stays the same.
Amalgamation in September, a new start for everyone,
Réalt na Mara is our new school, a new era has begun.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights decline,
We’ll remember Killea Boys in the rare oul times.
Fare thee well to Killea Boys School, and our super SNA’s
We’ve had great fun at sports days and the many Christmas plays
Our minds are full of memories, our time has been sublime,
We’re a part of what was Killea, in the Rare Oul Times.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
We’’ll remember Killea Boys in the rare oul times.
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines,
We’’ll remember Killea Boys in the rare oul times

Yesterday marked the closing ceremony of Killea Boys School. It was a day of great emotion and great pride.
Thank you to all involved in creating such a very special occasion.
The boys sang Killea Rocks, Killea Boys in the Rare Oul Times (words by Mr. Coogan) and Time of Our Lives by Tyrone Wells ofMusic Generation Waterford.

The school, students, staff, family and friends past and present were blessed by Fr Power and red flowering chestnut was planted to commemorate the day. The boys and staff then places their names that were painted onto stones around the tree and Eileen placed the flag stone “Killea National School 1975 - 2021”.
Thanks to Jack our videographer who captured the day wonderfully. Thanks to the PA who organised an ice cream truck for afterwards. Thank you to Teva for sponsoring our tree.

Finally, thank you Mr. Coogan. You have given our school 10 fantastic years, creating a unique and special school life for our boys. Wishing you and you family all the best in your new job.

Last week the children, having met each other on zoom calls, got to meet each other, in person, down at the beach.
The weather, as you would expect in June was dull a bit windy but with some sunshine breaking through.
They built sandcastles, played and had lunch together with the all important ice cream for dessert.
A very big thank you to the parents from the PA committee and PA friends who helped out on the various days Alison, Elaine, Deirdre, Melissa, Michelle, Ruth, Annalouise, Brianna, Jayné, Christine, Lorraine, Niamh, Gillian and Hazel.

Music Generation 3rd and 4th class.
Thanks to the Parents Association who are covering half the cost of the music generation program.
In recent days Music Generation Waterford released the fantastic performance of Sweet Child of Mine by Guns n’ Roses, which was created by young musicians across Waterford including several of the boys from Killea.
Congratulations to all involved.

As we quickly approach the end of this academic year we’d like to show you what the boys have been up to with Music Generation Waterford.
Thanks to Music Generation Waterford for reducing the school contributions for this academic year in light of Covid 19.
There was no contribution requested for programming that was delivered remotely to wholeclass programmes during the initial 5 week lock down in Jan – Feb 2021 or the additional two weeks of programming in June.

Now that the boys are back from mid term break, they have hit the ground running and are very busy. We had Science week but they took it a step further and spent a fortnight learning about science and how it impacts them on their daily lives.
They learned about magnets. How they attract and repel, their different shapes and strengths, how they work through different materials and how they make different objects move.
They spent a week learning about hospitals too. There are some very eager surgeons in our midst. They have rescued and remedied patients with broken bones, appendicitis and poisonings.
They have learned how to make an emergency call and could give the paramedics a run for their money.
The boys language skills are continuing to improve and develop. Thank you to their families at home who help supporting them through their chats.
