Common pitfalls to watch out for in 2024 that will prevent a good balance between your personal and professional life:

โš ๏ธ Overcommitting to work tasks and neglecting personal boundaries.
โš ๏ธ Failing to delegate responsibilities or seek support when overwhelmed.
โš ๏ธ Engaging in constant multitasking without taking breaks,

If you found yourself doing any of the above during 2023, anticipate you will do the same again in 2024.

Reasons may include:
โ— Fear of missing out on career opportunities if you prioritise personal time.
โ— Anxiety about disappointing colleagues or superiors if personal boundaries are set.
โ— Concerns about being perceived as less committed or ambitious if not constantly available for work.

This can lead to:

To truly embark on a journey of self-improvement, you must first acknowledge and address how you unconsciously hinder your progress.

In our fast-paced world, decision-making can be overwhelming with the constant stream of information and data available to us. However, there's more to it than just logic; your intuition plays a crucial role in the decision making process.

Intuition, often referred to as insight, gut feelings, or an inner voice, is that innate sense of knowing something without fully comprehending how you know it. Strengthening this intuitive muscle can significantly improve and clarify decision making for you.

It's okay to trust what you 'know' without overthinking it โ€“ sometimes we โ€˜knowโ€™ but donโ€™t trust it.

If you relentlessly strive for extremely high standards that are very demanding read on.

Many think of perfectionism as a positive trait, associated with excellence and setting high standards. Although having high standards and goals can help us achieve things in life, sometimes these standards get in the way of our happiness and can hinder our performance. Striving for unattainable perfection leads to constant stress and pressure, making it difficult to meet goals and feel good about yourself.

Perfectionism can also affect your self-worth, as being unable to achieve the impossibly high standards you set for yourself may make you feel like a failure.

Pursuing these personally demanding standards can have a significant effect on your well-being.

As the Summer Out of Office notifications start to appear.

If you struggle to disconnect from work during your annual leave, then this is for you.

It can be challenging to shift from being always on to truly being Out of Office.

Sometimes we have our own unrealistic expectations of ourselves to achieve highly in the workplace.

If you have a tendency to drive yourself hard do you have self-awareness around why you do this?

Are you working to your own expectations to reinforce the quality of your work and is this the expectation of your employer?

Is it linked with avoidance in another area of your life or seeking validation?

Taking personal responsibility for your own boundaries and your work-life balance is essential.

This may be especially the case if you are working from home.

After 25 years working from home I know that if you donโ€™t make time for fresh air, exercise, self-care and relationships you get tired, and your work will suffer, no matter how many hours you put in.

Are you feeling overwhelmed this Easter break?

It's difficult to perform at your best when you're juggling too many responsibilities.

Unfortunately, one of the first things we tend to neglect when we are busy is self-care, family time, and our personal and social lives. These are the very things that recharge us, so why do we let them fall by the wayside?

Because it is essential to slow down to enjoy these aspects of our lives and we often resist slowing down when we are trying to keep up with work demands.

This Easter break, take a moment to reflect on what matters. What can you let go of that doesnโ€™t matter to make room for the things that do?

High achievers demonstrate ambition, proactivity, focus on results & ability to deliver. Pushing to succeed they achieve goals. These are admirable qualities, but there are pitfalls to overusing these great strengths.

It is essential to be aware of the unintended consequences that come with being a high achiever. If you fail to recognise these downsides you can't address them.

๐‡๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐š ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ฐ ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐Ÿ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฐ๐š๐ญ๐œ๐ก ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ:

โ— Striving for perfection & having high standards can be beneficial, but it can also be challenging to meet the lofty expectations you set.

โ— Overcommitting & overdoing as a result of being overly optimistic about your ability to deliver can add stress & pressure.

โ— Always thinking you need to add value can lead to overworking & taking on tasks & responsibilities that others could do.

โ— Overstressing about not achieving goals, leads to a vicious cycle.

โ— Doing things that others could be doing, leading to overworking.

โ— Not stopping to reflect. High achievers are action-driven, it's critical to pause, reflect & readjust.

โ— Poor self-care, leading to burnout, an imbalanced life, & a lack of understanding regarding the importance of rest. It is impossible to reach your full potential if you are constantly on the go without taking the necessary time to rest & recharge.

๐—ช๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐š๐ฒ ๐›๐ž ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ ?
There are a few things that may be missing in your pursuit of achieving.

These include taking the time to truly appreciate the present moment, stopping to appreciate the world around you, recognising & acknowledging your own accomplishments, & engaging in self-reflection.

True lasting change doesn't come from reading books or listening to podcasts (although these can certainly be helpful). It requires a deep level of introspection & self-awareness. A lot influences the choices we make & the paths we take in life.

Your beliefs are powerful. Are yours leading you in the right direction?

What you believe to be true shapes your thoughts, beliefs, and ultimately your destiny. Your perception of reality is unique to you.

If you continually tell yourself a certain story, eventually you buy into it and begin making choices based on that story.

The key is to lead with your belief and start telling the story of what you want to be. Then let your actions follow your beliefs.

As Mahatma Gandhi famously said, 'Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.'
