Final Projects 2025-26 Showcase
A Life That Follows ๐ŸŸ as material for fashion and interiors, honoring the Indigenous practices it comes from.

The project transforms discarded fish skin, gathered weekly from a local fishmonger, into durable, biodegradable material through natural tanning.
Rooted in Indigenous zero-waste philosophy, where animals are partners, not resources, the collection features a cod crossbody bag, a salmon handbag, and two sole handbags.
All designed with an ending: to return to the sea, decompose, and nourish. The loop, closed.

What if slowing down is the practice? ๐Ÿชข
Gratitude Loom is a ritual weaving instrument exploring how technology can cultivate presence through embodied, repetitive making.
A project developed porpla exploring the intersection of craft, technology and embodied attention.

This 4-shaft , augmented with sensors and , translates the weaverโ€™s rhythm and attentiveness into an evolving textile pattern.
Each session begins with gratitude and intention, seeding the first pattern. As the weaver works, sensors track their movements while AI selects or generates what comes next. Sustained presence deepens the weave, while distraction simplifies it. Throughout, the weaver retains full agency to change, pause or end the ritual at any moment.

Congratulations to Porpla for developing such an inspiring project that opened a new path toward Harvard University! ๐ŸŽ“

Reimagining how we build, on Earth and beyond ๐Ÿ›ฐ๐ŸŒŒ
Exhibition | Cambridge 2026

Space Habitat Pavilion, developed by Aurelia Institute, is a life-size, interactive model of a self-assembling space habitat, still on display in the lobby of the MIT Media Lab.

Inspired by Ariel Ekblaw's early prototype work in the "How To Make Almost Anything" course run by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld through the - Center for Bits and Atoms, and envisioned as a communal module within a larger space station, the Pavilion explores how modular architecture, advanced fabrication and innovative interior systems could respond to life in microgravity.

The model was developed during a residency at the Autodesk centers in Boston, where the team worked on the Pavilion's architectural concept and interior design.

One of the highlights of exhibition in Cambridge 2026 was Constructions ๐Ÿงฑ๐Ÿค–

MIT CBA showcased its research into voxel assembly systems: building-block assembly of reconfigurable, large-scale and load-bearing structures. Voxels are made from renewable feedstocks and assembled by mobile relative robots.
Biobased materials, digital fabrication and distributed manufacturing coming together to rethink how we design and build.

Fabricademy proudly presented LEXICON as part of the exhibition 2026: a 23 ft suspended installation by MIT CBA Center for Bits & Atoms PHD researchers Alfonso Parra Rubio Alfonso Parra Rubio and Erik Strand, hanging in Deferrari Hall at Boston Public Library, Copley Square. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Born from years of research into folding, cellular materials and digital fabrication, LEXICON is a reminder of what happens when engineering and design come together in public space. By combining geometry, folding and assembly, Lexicon explores how complex forms can emerge from lightweight and efficient systems of construction.

AI has a hidden cost: water, power, labor. This device puts living moss in charge of your access, its hydration decides if your request goes through. Let it dry out and you have to feed it a tear to reconnect.

๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ Electrospun Fields
A robotic arm sculpts invisible electric fields to spin bio-fibers into 3D form. Second Selves grows a mask from human hair; Chrysalis spins a moth-wing garment from nothing but field and fiber.

๐Ÿงฑ Tessellated Biomes
Construction causes 34% of global COโ‚‚ emissions. Inspired by termites and ants, tiny quadruped robots assemble self-aligning voxels into walls, stairs and columns. No cameras, no master plan, just geometry guiding geometry.
