We’re proud to celebrate past pupil Paula Kavanagh as she prepares to hang up her camera in February 2027 after an incredible 35-year career in photography. From her school days in St Louis Dundalk to establishing her own studio in Blackrock, her work has reflected creativity, connection and care.
We thank Paula for the joy she has brought through her lens 📸 and wish her every happiness in this next chapter.

Final frame- Paula to hang up the camera after 35 years of capturing memories
Local award-winning photographer Paula Kavanagh has announced her intention to step away from the business early next year after 35 years capturing many happy moments across the community. Paula who learned her trade from her late father Paul (one of the best known and distinguished photographers in Ireland) said it has been a privilege to share in the lives of people’s happiest moments down through the years.
“After more than 35 wonderful years in photography, I’ll be stepping back from the business in February 2027.
“As I look back, I feel nothing but gratitude. It has been such a privilege to share in your lives and to capture so many of your happiest moments. From weddings to newborn babies, to milestone anniversaries and everything in between, I’ve had the honour of watching your families grow and change over the years. Those memories are something I will always treasure.
“My journey began in 1989, working alongside my dad, Paul Kavanagh, on St Mary’s Road. From there, I went on to build my own studio at home in Blackrock in 2006. Photography has never just been a job to me—it’s been a way of life, full of variety, creativity, and connection. No two days were ever the same, and that’s something I’ve truly loved.
“I’ve always believed in the importance of capturing life through professional photographs, and I’m so thankful that you trusted me to do that for you. Being invited into your lives, your homes, and your celebrations has meant more to me than I can properly express.
“Before I hang up my camera, I’d be delighted to see many of you one more time—whether for a family portrait or a special occasion in the year ahead. It would be a lovely way to round off this chapter.
“Finally, I’m happy to say that all of the images I’ve taken over the years have been carefully recorded, and with the wonderful support of the Dundalk Archival Office, the Paul Kavanagh Collection has also been preserved and catalogued for the future. This collection of negatives dates from the 50s to the present day and documents so much of the history of Dundalk, it’s people and the border area.
“Thank you again for your support, your trust, and for allowing me to be part of your stories. It has truly been a joy,” concluded Paula.
