A learner can read every page of a manual and still feel unsure when it’s time to carry out a treatment.

That’s why practical training needs time to watch, practise, ask questions and receive useful feedback. Mistakes are part of learning, provided there’s someone there to help the learner understand and correct them.

When I develop a course, I think about what learners need to do by the end of it, not just what they need to know.
