Statement of Solidarity
The current and former students of the VIEWFINDER Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Cinematography express their solidarity with the students and teachers of the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest regarding the current unstable situation of its autonomy and leadership.
The Viewfinder Erasmus Mundus Joint Master is a two-year, international graduate program delivered by a consortium of three prominent European universities across three countries: Ireland, Hungary and Estonia. The University of Theatre and Film Arts as the leader of the consortium has started the Viewfinder program in 2016 with the collaboration of its Irish and Estonian partner universities.
The current and former students of Viewfinder are deeply concerned that the autonomy of SZFE is under threat. „We, who are coming from different countries and cultures to study in SZFE, believe in free critical thinking and artistic expression. This is exactly the spirit and atmosphere we experienced while spending a semester in SZFE which is the basic necessity for creating films that critically reflect our reality. The university’s autonomy, free thinking, and equal dialogue is a basic need in every artistic expression, and we stand up for it.”

The application period for the 4th edition of the course (September 2020 - June 2022) is open for self-funded places only. Viewfinder was granted the right to use the Erasmus Mundus brand name and the grant support of the European Commission for the first three editions – there are not any scholarships for the fourth edition.
VIEWFINDER seeks applicants who are already experienced in film production photography as cinematographer, camera operator, camera assistant, stills photographer etc. and who are well versed in set procedures and collaborative nature of filmmaking.
