TCD Alumni Society of Paris

TCD Alumni Society of Paris The TCD Alumni Society of Paris enables Trinity College Dublin graduates to maintain contact with each other and keep contact with the University.

Founded in 1992, The Trinity College Dublin Alumni Society of Paris, which is affiliated to the Trinity College Dublin Alumni Relations Office, enables Trinity College Dublin graduates, mostly based in and around Paris, to maintain contact with each other and to keep in touch with the University. As well as bringing Trinity College Dublin graduates together, the society also has a larger goal of p

romoting Trinity College Dublin in France and fostering links with other alumni associations in France, including others Irish and UK universities. Members and their guests are welcome to a range of events which take place throughout the year, that includes convivial pub evenings, sporting events, theatre visits, concerts and opera events, guided visits to exhibitions and historical sites and breakfast talks. If we reach an important number of memberships, other events will probably be organised as a move forward such as a summer Garden Party at the Irish Embassy, a formal dinner in the winter or dinners with distinguished speakers. Our aim is to provide a mix of networking, cultural and sporting events, formal and informal, to match all tastes and ages. For the success of events, the Society encourages all its members to get as involved as possible with all things. New ideas and fresh talent for the development of the Society are most definitely welcome! Check out our new webiste : https://tcdalumniparis.org/

Interesting event for TCD Alumni in France-The Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute, at Trinity College Dublin, and the Cercle LittĆ©raire Irlandais are delighted to partner for the first time and bring to your home the virtual recreation of the Exposition l’Art Irlandais, which opened in January 1922 at the Galerie Barbazanges in Paris. We invite you to a virtual tour of the recreated exhibition guided by Dr Ciaran O’Neill and Dr Billy Shortall, the researchers on the ā€œSeeing Irelandā€ project.

Early-twentieth-century visitors may have been surprised by the diversity and richness of showcased materials, from Evelyn Gleeson’s arts and crafts to Arthur Daley’s music, alongside the Yeats brothers’ literature and paintings, in addition to other artefacts, concerts and performances covering areas including the Irish visual and creative arts, language, sport, religion, economics and agriculture.

This seminal presentation of modern Irish art to the French public was sponsored by the new Irish Free State and played a significant role on the international stage: on the one hand, in the construction of a distinct Irish identity, and on the other hand, in the promotion of Irish culture and values. The ā€œSeeing Irelandā€ project restores the cultural, political, and diplomatic importance of the event, while presenting an alternative narrative of Irishness, and providing access to, and expertise on, over a 100 of the 280 artworks originally exhibited.

We hope that you will join us in this immersive commemoration of the Irish Parisian event, enabled by the sponsorship of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media. We are grateful for the support of the French Embassy in Ireland and the Irish Embassy in France. This event is completely free, but registration is mandatory.
