Open Doors 2019 20/11/2019

The 2019 IIE Open Doors Report shows that Ireland is now the 6th most popular study abroad destination in the world for US students, overtaking China to move up from 7th last year.

The report indicates that 11,965 US students studied abroad in Ireland during the 2017-18 academic year, up 4.1% from the previous year. Ireland continues to host the highest number of US study abroad students per capita.

A 2018 Southern Cross Consulting report, commissioned by ASAPI and Education in Ireland, showed that US study abroad contributed € 220 million annually to the Irish economy and created 187 direct jobs and a further 261 indirect jobs in Ireland.

This week Claire Mc Gowan, our Head Of Student Affairs, is at the annual NAFSA Association of International Educators conference in Philadelphia. Today she and Suzi Breslin (IFSA Ireland) presented at their Poster Fair on the topic of Tracking Students in Emergency Situations. This was research originally undertaken as part of an ASAPI - Association of Study Abroad Providers in Ireland workshop at the U.S. Embassy Dublin last year.
