🤔 We know that 'the Green' holds a lot of memories for RCSI alumni, but how much do you know about the history of RCSI's nearest green space?
🌳 Why not join the Alumni Team for our next Lunchtime event - a historical walking tour of St Stephen's Green, with !
📜 A place with a very special resonance for RCSI Alumni, St Stephen’s Green has its own fascinating history, from its origins as a marshy piece of common ground in the thirteenth century to its transformation as a destination for fashionable society five hundred years later. Our guides will cover significant milestones in the park’s history, such as the gifting of the Green by Lord Ardiaun to the people of Dublin and the events of the Easter Rising in 1916.
⚕️ There are numerous medical points of interest to note nearby too, from the medieval l***r house which later provided the site for Mary Mercer’s hospital, to the establishment of St Vincent’s Hospital in the 1830s by the Sisters of Charity.
🏛️ From an architectural perspective St Stephen’s Green is surrounded by some of Dublin’s finest buildings, from Iveagh House, designed by Richard Castle in 1736, to Newman House, the University Church and RCSI’s own historic home at number 123. Fittingly our tour will start and end at the Green’s latest architectural addition – RCSI's new campus building at 118 St Stephen’s Green
📅 When: Thursday 25 June, 12:30pm
📍 Where: Attendees should meet the Alumni Team at the Reception Desk on the ground floor of 118 St Stephen's Green (enter via Humanarium)
