Walk The Streets Of 1916 Dublin Today 03/02/2026

Looking at the 1916 rising through the lens of three popular Irish folk songs. Even though some songs were written well after the date. They still offer a unique and different perspective on things. Quite a change from reading about the events in a history book at least. What other songs would you recommend?

Walk The Streets Of 1916 Dublin Today The 1916 Rising changed Ireland forever, but the history books often miss the emotional reality on the ground. While the buildings on Sackville Street burned...

The Father Who Waited 37 Years To See His Son Again 26/01/2026

Not all Songs are like Kilkelly, Ireland. Inspiration came in the form of old forgotten letters found in an Attic in Bethesda, Maryland US.

Letters between a Son who left Ireland after the Famine when he was 13 and a Father he never saw again. The final letter and the final verse in the song is truly heartbreaking.

Check out this video where I go into detail about the song, those letters and show you how you can read them all for yourself. It truly is interesting and a window back in time.

"My Dear and Loving Son, John."

Green Fields of France - The Story Behind the Song and was Willie McBride Real? 24/01/2026

Green Fields of France written by Eric Bogle, but also adapted by the likes of The Fureys, explores WWI through the life and death of Willie McBride.

Eric made up Willie McBride for the sake of writing the song. But there were actually no fewer than 10 Willie McBrides who fought in WWI.

The story connecting the song with WWI and the brave soldiers who fought in that brutal war is sad, but an interesting read.

Check it out the full story here!

By the way, who sang it best? Fureys or Eric?

Why Did Irish People Stop Playing Music During the Potato Famine? 02/01/2026

I had always wondered... What did Ireland sound like before the Famine? With no recordings, having to build a picture from written accounts was tricky. But this video gives a great picture into the Before, During and After the Famine - what did Ireland sound like and how did the music survive?

Only One Song Survived 20/12/2025

Every real story has hard times. Because of a sudden tragedy during production, an entire album was lost.

However only one song survived.

Christopher Dean is a musician in the United States who shows exactly how amazing the guitar sounds when playing Irish songs.

He created several albums over the years kick started with the help of Jim Soldi, a lead guitarist for Johnny Cash back in the day. Together, they brought a wealth of experience to the music. The path wasn't easy.

Check out his story in this video.

Only One Song Survived In 2010, Christopher Dean and his producer Brian Baynes had just finished a masterpiece, a new album that was set to redefine Chris' career. A few days after...

When Irish Music Wore a Suit and Bow Tie (Seán Ó Riada) 06/12/2025

Seán Ó Riada, accomplished so much in only 40 years before his life was tragically cut short. Music in Ireland was highly developed and deserved the same level of respect that classical European music had.

When Irish Music Wore a Suit and Bow Tie (Seán Ó Riada) In the 1950s, Irish traditional music was fighting for survival. It was often dismissed by the establishment and ignored by the youth. Then Seán Ó Riada arri...
