Youth Work Ireland hosted a very exciting showcase, networking and learning event as part of its ongoing Erasmus+ project looking at Youth Work practice through music and cultural entrepreneurship. This event built on the work Youth Work Ireland has been doing in the field of music through its Irish Youth Music Awards programme. The final output of this project is to design an online toolkit/site on how to use music as a tool for engaging and retaining young people in youth services.
This project involves six European partners; UK Youth, Youth Cymru (Wales), Samfés - Samtök félagsmiðstöðva á Íslandi (Iceland), Youth Scotland, Lithuanian Children and Youth Centre and YouthAction Northern Ireland with Youth Work Ireland as the lead partner. The event involved presentations on the use of music by these project partners under the headings of education, enterprise, employment and enterprise. Please like this Youth Music or join the conversation to keep up to date with the project.
This event was funded through the Erasmus Plus+ programme with the support of Léargas.

Mental Health Reform held a discussion evening on access to mental health services for people in crisis, in Wood Quay Venue on Thursday 9th January. Chaired by the broadcaster Marian Finucane, the event was attended by over 120 people.
We'll post the event to You Tube shortly. Watch this space!
Panelists were June Shannon (health journalist), Marie Duffy (mental health blogger and activist) and Dr. Pat Gibbons (psychiatrist, Kildare/West Wicklow Mental Health Service). Mental Health Reform's Director Shari McDaid joined the panel for Q&A.
The general advice for people who are feeling mentally unwell is to contact your GP. If your GP is not available and you are very unwell or feeling suicidal, you should go to A&E. There are a number of other supports available, including the Samaritans helpline: 1850 60 90 90 and the Console 1Life helpline: 1800 247 100, both available 24 hours a day.
Two Samaritans volunteers were available on the night to offer support to anyone in distress.
