There are three categories of nouns:

1. common nouns: street, car, mountain, river, house, etc.
2. proper nouns: Paris, Europe, Thomas, Smith, Brazil, Victoria, George, etc.
3. collective nouns: a herd of elephants, a pack of dogs, a clowder of cats, etc.
