Butterfly Lunch 2026 16/06/2026

We wanted to share some of the wonderful pictures from our Butterfly Lunch last Friday, sponsored by AON, A&L Goodbody, Homecare Medical, and Stacks Pharmacy, held in the beautiful surroundings of Elm Park Golf and Sporting Club.
What a wonderful day we had, the atmosphere from the outset was filled with joy, warmth and a genuine eagerness from all our guests to support the care and services that we offer people living with dementia at St Joseph's.
We were delighted to be entertained by Henry Syms on piano during our drinks reception, and our MC Alan Shortt really got into the whole Butterfly theme of the day too. Brian Walsh supplied the hotly contested music bingo session. We are so grateful to all our donors of prizes, and sponsorship and to the team Elm Park Golf & Sports Club, Dublin 4 for their hospitality.
What great fun we all enjoyed while raising over €50,000 for St Joseph's!! THANK YOU ALL.

Celebrating 17 years of volunteering at St Joseph’s Centre.

Br Dominic was recently recognised by Nicola Yau, Volunteer Manager, for his remarkable contribution to our community. Since 2009, he has shared his love of music with residents and Day Care Club members, creating moments of connection, joy and companionship.

Music has a unique way of bringing people together, sparking memories and creating meaningful moments. Over the past 17 years, Br Dominic has helped make those moments possible for so many people living with dementia.

We are deeply grateful for his time, kindness, dedication and continued commitment to St Joseph’s Centre.

Thank you, Br Dominic.

He was himself - Meaningful Care Matters 08/06/2026

This is what we do everyday - what an honour and privilege to be with and walk alongside so many people. Thank you Ann Bolger for sharing your experiences and being so wonderful to all those we have the honour to share lives with…..every moment matters

He was himself - Meaningful Care Matters Everyone loved Mr M. As we would affectionately say in Ireland; “ he was himself”. I met Mr M when I began to work in a Butterfly home as a nurse...

Our next Memory Café takes place on Tuesday, 9 June 2026 at 10.30am in Loughlinstown Community Rooms.

The Memory Café is a warm, welcoming space for people living with dementia, their families, friends, carers, healthcare professionals, and members of the community to come together over conversation, connection and support.

This month, we are pleased to welcome Kate Irving, Professor of Clinical Nursing at Dublin City University, who will speak on responding sensitively to repeated questions. This is a topic many families and carers will recognise, and Kate will offer helpful insight into how we can respond with patience, understanding and compassion.

Whether you are living with dementia, supporting someone close to you, or simply interested in helping to build a more dementia-inclusive community, you are very welcome to join us.

Date: Tuesday, 9 June 2026
Time: 10.30am
Venue: Loughlinstown Community Rooms, Loughlinstown, A96 RY11

This week, St. Joseph's Centre, Shankill, is delighted to welcome partners from Slovenia and Portugal as part of the Erasmus+ co-funded EmpowerCare project.

During their visit, they experienced how our person-centred, rights-based approach to dementia care supports meaningful engagement, connection and quality of life for people living with dementia.

The visit provided an opportunity to share learning and showcase how community engagement is woven into everyday life at St. Joseph's Centre, helping to create a sense of belonging and purpose for those who call it home.

Led by Slovenska filantropija in Slovenia, the EmpowerCare project includes St. Joseph's Centre, Shankill, and Instituto S. João de Deus, Portugal (SJOG Portugal), as project partners. Together, we are sharing knowledge and best practice to strengthen dementia care and community engagement across Europe.

It wasn’t just the sun that was out in force today but our Evelyn Byrne hosted a coffee morning for friends and family in aid of St Joseph’s!
Not only that but Evelyn (who celebrated a big birthday this year but not letting tha stop her) is also taking part in the mini marathon on Sunday for St Joseph’s!!! Evelyn and her hubby Breffini have been supported by our care sevices here in St Joseph’s over the last 5 years. Evelyn like so many others before her wants to try and give back a little to the place Breffini now calls home. And she’s certainly doing that in style!!! So far her total raised is €1190 - if you’d like to support her further here’s her sponsorship link. Well done and thank
you Evelyn and all your friends who came along and gave so generously!
