Welcome to Moyne Abbey - one of the most impressive ruins in Ireland ๐ฎ๐ชโช
Founded by Franciscan friars before 1455, Moyne Abbey was burned in 1590, but much of it still stands today ๐ฅโณ
Home to one of Irelandโs most impressive cloisters, its Gothic arches and medieval stonework are a sight to behold ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฐ
Now, a warning: Moyne Abbey isnโt a polished tourist attraction with a car park and paved paths - you reach it by walking across private farmland via a public right-of-way ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ฟ
Thereโs usually roadside parking nearby, but space is limited, so you need to park carefully without blocking gates or traffic ๐โ ๏ธ
From there, itโs a short walk across uneven grassy fields that can get very muddy after rain, so decent footwear is important ๐ฅพ๐ง๏ธ

Few views in Ireland stop you in your tracks quite like this ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ช
This is the view from the summit of Croagh Patrick in County Mayo, standing 764m (2,507ft) above Clew Bay โฐ๏ธ๐
On a clear day, the islands scattered across the bay seem to go on forever.
What year did you first make it to the top? ๐

Perched along Donegalโs rugged Gweedore coastline, this little white cottage at Cnoc Fola (Bloody Foreland) looks straight out across the Atlantic ๐๐ก
Despite the dramatic name, Bloody Foreland wasnโt named after a battle - it comes from the fiery red glow that lights up the cliffs at sunset ๐ฅ
Out beyond the shoreline, islands like Inishsirrer, Inishmeane and Gola sit scattered across the water, with views here stretching endlessly out to sea ๐

Fascinating ๐ฒ Northern Ireland's Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge back when it was actually a rope bridge ๐ฒ
Salmon fishermen have been building crossings here for over 350 years, replacing them whenever storms destroyed what came before.
Up until the 1970s, it was still very basic - just a narrow walkway with a single handrail and wide gaps between the slats. The photos here were taken between 1865 - 1914!
Would you have crossed it back in the day? ๐ค

The second Ireland gets a glimpse of sunshine, the beaches fill up fast ๐๏ธโ๏ธ

Many who visit Grianรกn of Aileach ๐ฐ in Donegal come for the views, but few take the time to uncover its story ๐คโ
โ
Perched on Greenan Mountain โฐ๏ธ, this stone ring fort dates to the 6th or 7th century and was once the stronghold of the powerful Northern Uรญ Nรฉill dynasty โ๏ธ. From here, they ruled Inishowen, their fortress watching over Lough Swilly, Lough Foyle, and beyond ๐โ
โ
In 1101, Muirchertach Ua Briain of Munster marched north and destroyed the fort ๐ฅ in a bid to claim the High Kingship ๐ What stands today was rebuilt in the 19th century, when excavations unearthed bones, carved stones, and even what may have been a gaming board ๐ฒโ
โ
So while the 360ยฐ views are spectacular ๐, the history of An Grianรกn Fort is what makes it one of Donegalโs most fascinating sitesโ

Rising above Newtownards in County Down, Scrabo Tower has been watching over Strangford Lough since the 1800s ๐ฐ๐
Itโs whatโs known as a โfollyโ - a structure built mainly to impress rather than serve any real practical purpose ๐ค
Youโll find it perched within Scrabo Country Park and, after the short climb up, youโre treated to sweeping views across Strangford Lough and the surrounding countryside ๐

You never know what you'll stumble upon in an ancient forest in Ireland ๐ฎ๐ช
Tucked away beneath the canopy of Belleek Woods in Ballina, the Belleek Mausoleum feels like something stumbled upon rather than found ๐ฒ๐๏ธ
Built as a burial vault for the Knox-Gore family, who once owned the vast Belleek estate, the structure now sits quietly among the trees beside the River Moy ๐๐
Between the damp stonework, twisting woodland paths and near-constant birdsong, this corner of Mayo feels completely removed from modern life ๐
