Welcome to our slowcation issue celebrating spring and the longer leisurely days ahead. The hottest trend for 2025 is the concept of slower travel. Staying longer brings all kinds of goodness in terms of wellbeing and sustainability. And it is possible to go to a busy spot and enjoy an extended stay. My own trip to Venice was at a much slower pace. A city that has been beset with overcrowding and overwhelming numbers of day trippers is worthy of a more gentle, lingering visit. Over a week I walked 10k every day in the early hours of the morning exploring a different sestiere. In the Algarve I spent time immersed in the local culture, learning from creatives and visiting sustainable vineyards and farms. Languishing in Key West, embracing the slower pace of life and living on ‘island time’ was the perfect slowcation. Staying for a while in a single location allows us to experience the local culture and community more. It also limits our carbon footprint and less packing and unpacking is more relaxing. In a nutshell, living like a local is much more rewarding and a break from the intense busyness of our everyday lives. To whet your appetite I put together a travel calendar of spectacular events over the coming year and some of the key trends for 2025 - including the rise in female adventure travel. Planet Woman is a longer and more leisurely read. Enjoy, whether from the sofa or on location. Happy travels!
