Interior Design is something built, project by project, decision by decision, and design by design.
That is why professional designers are judged by their portfolio.
A strong portfolio shows far more than beautiful interiors - it shows:
✔️ Creative thinking and concept development
✔️ Space planning and technical skills
✔️ Material and colour understanding
✔️ Presentation and storytelling ability
✔️ Your unique design perspective
The most successful designers have the power to transform every project into an opportunity to develop their skills, refine their creative voice, and build a body of work that reflects who they are as designers.
Over time, you begin to recognise your own style, gain confidence in your decisions, and learn to present ideas professionally.
The most important thing - you develop a design point of view that makes your work distinctive.
Every mood board, floor plan, design concept, and presentation becomes part of a bigger story, your journey as a designer.

Jennifer began building professional Interior Design skills, via the flexible Higher National Certificate course at the Academy. Today, she runs her own Interior Design business!
Her journey is proof that it is never too late to start. Sometimes, all it takes is to listen to the creative voice that has always been there.

Interior Designers are strategic problem solvers. Fact!
There is so much more to design than beautiful furniture or on-trend colours!
Here’s what they are doing:
✔️ Transforming awkward spaces into functional environments
✔️ Improving how people move, work, relax, and interact in a space
✔️ Balancing beauty with practicality
✔️ Creating emotional comfort through textures, lighting, and materials
✔️ Reflecting personality and brand identity through design
✔️ Solving layout, storage, lighting, and flow challenges creatively
And inspiration is everywhere. It’s in architecture, fashion, nature, films, restaurants, travel, art, music, and even ordinary daily moments.
Interior Designers think like strategists creating spaces that improve how people live, feel, and experience the world around them.
Interior Design belongs to designers who can solve problems beautifully.

Nowadays, people want homes that feel human.
Interiors dominated by white walls, beige palettes, and “safe” design choices, often felt cold, flat, and disconnected from the people living in them.
Now, interior design is shifting toward something more meaningful:
✔️ Spaces with personality
✔️ Warm textures and layered materials
✔️ Vintage and handcrafted details
✔️ Colours that create emotion
✔️ Homes designed around real life, not trends
Interiors should tell the story of those who use the space.
Today’s designers are creating spaces that feel lived in, personal, and emotionally comforting. The future of Interior Design is about identity, warmth, and authenticity.
The best interiors make people feel something.

Student Spotlight | Sophia Prokofieva
A true passion for Interior Design and the courage to change her life!
For Sophia, stepping away from linguistics and fashion buying and stepping into the world of Interior Design was inevitable.
It started with her instinct for how spaces feel - how a café, a hotel, or even a home can shape emotions, comfort, and experience.
That awareness turned into curiosity and curiosity turned into action!
Sophia chose a flexible learning path and managed to redefine her way of thinking when it comes to interior design.
✔️ She learned to balance structure with creativity
✔️ She adapted her own pace and took control of her progress
✔️ She discovered that challenges in a space are opportunities
Realising that design process is evolution.
“I learned that the most challenging aspects of a space can often become its strongest features.”
Today, Sophia is building her presence, sharing her work, and turning her vision into reality. Sometimes, all it takes is to decide to do it.
