Today is Poetry Day Ireland, and this year's theme is "Home". We’d love to hear from you — what poem reminds you of home?

We’re reminded of Eavan Boland’s Anna Liffey:

“There, in the hills above my house,
The river Liffey rises, is a source.
It rises in rush and ling heather and
Black peat and bracken and strengthens
To claim the city it narrated.”

A reminder that home can flow through us, shaping who we are and how we remember.

“We started in 1996 - just myself and half a secretary - and we grew over the next few years to a thousand students and 16 staff. [The school] blossomed in 2002 when we had the national assimilation of all nurse and midwife teachers who came in, which brought the school up to 1,400 students, 100 staff. Wonderful to look back at the old days and see what the roots were like and how they've developed and strengthened in the meantime.”

🎉 Celebrating 30 Years of Excellence🎉

Last Tuesday, Trinity School of Nursing and Midwifery celebrated its 30th anniversary! The founding Head of School, former Heads of School, staff, and hospital partners got together to share this wonderful occasion.

Since its establishment in 1996, the School has been committed to shaping better experiences of birth, death, health, illness, and disability for people in Ireland and beyond. We look forward to continuing to uphold and advance this work into the future.

As we celebrate this milestone, we look ahead with pride and purpose, continuing to inspire future leaders in healthcare and making a lasting impact locally and globally.

Here’s to 30 years of dedication, growth, and care and many more to come! 💙

🏆Sport Alumni of the Year🏅

Huge congratulations to Dublin University Ladies’ Boat Club Caoimhe Dempsey for winning the Trinity Sport Alumni of the Year Award last week! This award recognises the tireless effort that alumni of Trinity College make towards sport. Nominations go to alumni who have shown exceptional commitment, leadership, and enthusiasm to enhance their sports club.

Caoimhe took up rowing as a fresher in Trinity and continued in the sport throughout her degrees, representing Ireland at the U23 level and winning three Oxford-Cambridge Boat Races, including as President of Cambridge University Boat Club in 2023. We were lucky enough to hear her speak about her path to coaching at our Women in Sport Panel Talk last March.

The 2026 Pollard Poetry Prize winner, Karen Downs-Barton, talks about her winning acclaimed book, 'Minx', an autobiographical collection of poems, centring themes of children growing up in care, mothers who had to "set food on the table", and the use of the Romani language in literature. Karen also shares some personal reflections from creating 'Minx'.

We’re proud to see Trinity alumn Sinéad Burke attend this year’s Met Gala in New York — not only as a guest, but as a key voice shaping a more inclusive fashion world.

Sinéad is an Irish writer, broadcaster and disability activist, and the founder and CEO of Tilting the Lens, a strategic accessibility consultancy working with global cultural institutions and brands. At this year’s Met Gala, she played a pivotal role in advising the Costume Institute on accessibility, contributing to the introduction of step-free access and deeper representation of disabled bodies and designers within the 2026 exhibition Costume Art.

A Trinity graduate and Trailblazer, Sinéad continues to lead with insight, creativity and impact — challenging industries to design for equity, dignity and inclusion at every level.
