Il 16 giugno si celebra in tutto il mondo il genio straordinario di James Joyce. Il Bloomsday ricorda il giorno immortalato nel suo capolavoro Ulysses: il 16 giugno 1904, una giornata qualunque trasformata in letteratura eterna.
Anche lâItalia ha un legame speciale con questa ricorrenza: Joyce iniziò a scrivere Ulysses nel 1914 a Trieste, cittĂ che ancora oggi ne custodisce la memoria attraverso eventi, letture e celebrazioni dedicate.
đ Costumi dâepoca, passeggiate letterarie, letture pubbliche e incontri culturali rendono il Bloomsday una festa unica per gli amanti della letteratura.

On 16 June, the world celebrates the extraordinary genius of James Joyce. Bloomsday commemorates the day immortalised in his masterpiece Ulysses: 16 June 1904, an ordinary day transformed into eternal literature.
Italy also shares a special connection with this celebration: Joyce began writing Ulysses in Trieste in 1914, and the city continues to honour his legacy through events, readings and cultural gatherings.
đ Period costumes, literary walks, public readings and cultural events make Bloomsday a unique celebration for literature lovers everywhere.

On 4 June, celebrations marking Italyâs National Day were held at St Helenâs Hotel in Dublin, bringing together more than 300 guests, including Irish national and local authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Italian community, and the local business sector.
Following the performance of the Italian and Irish national anthems by Maestro Antonio Cascelli and soprano Francesca Placanica, Italyâs Ambassador to Ireland, Nicola Faganello, delivered his traditional address, highlighting the strength of Italy-Ireland relations, particularly ahead of Irelandâs upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union (JulyâDecember 2026).
The Ambassador also reflected on the significance of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic and announced the forthcoming opening, at the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin, of the exhibition Donne della Repubblica â Ottanta anni di conquiste nelle cronache dell'ANSA 1946â2026, produced by ANSA in collaboration with . Through photographs and archival material, the exhibition traces the evolution of womenâs rights and roles in Italy from 1946 to the present day.
The celebrations continued over the weekend with events in Cork and Galway, organised with the local Honorary Consuls and attended by Ambassador Faganello and Michela Linda MagrĂŹ, Director of the Italian Institute of Culture.
In Cork, the event at the prestigious Aula Maxima of University College Cork was attended by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Fergal Dennehy, representatives of the local Chamber of Commerce, and members of the consular corps. It concluded with a highly acclaimed performance of Norma by Vincenzo Bellini at Cork Opera House, presented by Irish National Opera with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture.
The week concluded with National Day celebrations in the evocative setting of Claregalway Castle, attended by members of the local Italian community and Irish civic leaders, including Galway Deputy Mayor Alan Cheevers.

On 4 June, Dublin hosted the first-ever Italian Research Day in Ireland, bringing together over 80 Italian researchers from leading universities and research centres across the country. The initiative, held for the first time in Ireland, was organized by the Italian Embassy in Dublin in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) with the aim of fostering mutual understanding, dialogue, and collaboration among Italian researchers based in Ireland.
Following the introduction by the IIC Director, Michela MagrĂŹ, the event opened with a speech by the Italian Ambassador to Dublin, Nicola Faganello. This was followed by five interdisciplinary sessions in which Professors Silvia Giordani (DCU,recently appointed Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, OMRI), Marco Bellardi (UCD), Goran Dominioni (DCU), Massimiliano Mascherini (Eurofound), and Valeria Nicolosi (Trinity College) presented some of their current research to the audience. The morning featured engaging presentations and Q&A sessions, covering topics ranging from nanotechnologies, nanomaterials, and maritime decarbonization to 20th-century literature and labor market analysis in the EU.
The day concluded with the celebrations of Italyâs National Day, marking the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic and bringing together representatives of Irish institutions, the diplomatic corps, the Italian community, and the local business sector.

Lâiniziativa, organizzata per la prima volta in Irlanda dallâAmbasciata dâItalia a Dublino in collaborazione con lâIstituto Italiano di Cultura (IIC), aveva lâobiettivo di favorire la conoscenza reciproca, il dialogo e la collaborazione tra i ricercatori italiani presenti in Irlanda.
Dopo lâintroduzione della Direttrice dellâIIC, Michela MagrĂŹ, lâevento si è aperto con lâintervento dellâAmbasciatore dâItalia a Dublino, Nicola Faganello. Sono seguite cinque sessioni interdisciplinari durante le quali le professoresse e i professori Silvia Giordani (DCU, recentemente insignita del titolo di Ufficiale dellâOrdine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana â OMRI), Marco Bellardi (UCD), Goran Dominioni (DCU), Massimiliano Mascherini (Eurofound) e Valeria Nicolosi (Trinity College) hanno presentato al pubblico alcune delle loro attuali linee di ricerca.
