MEC is an established English Language school committed to the provision of quality English language teaching. It is regrettable that the teachers' pay is two weeks in arrears. We apologise for this and assure the teachers that this will be rectified by next week.
The school is currently under some financial pressure which is rooted in the surprise announcement of 2 September 2014 from QQI. As you know, changes that were introduced by QQI in September 2014 - without general consultation with the language schools - were found by the High Court to be unlawful. As a result of these changes,the reputation of ELT in Ireland has been seriously damaged internationally (despite the ruling being overturned by the High Court). All schools in Dublin are currently suffering from this damage.
MEC has been in close discussion with ACELS over the past three months, looking for support from them to overcome these problems in the market . As a legacy function of Quality and Qualifications Ireland, ACELS has been unable to restore confidence in Irish ELT. We are concerned that the ongoing closures of so many language schools in Ireland will have a far-reaching impact on our ELT industry for many years. As such we are determined to remain open in order to maintain education for our students and jobs for our employees.
