FINAL Volunteer Call for Applications!
Between 13-17 July 2020, Drama and Theatre Studies at NUI Galway have the honour to host the annual international IFTR conference.
IFTR (The International Federation for Theatre Research) is the world’s largest international organisation for theatre and performance researchers. It was founded in 1957; the Federation currently boasts members from 44 countries and from all continents.
Theatre Ecologies: Environment, Sustainability and Politics
The 2020 conference, “Theatre Ecologies: Environment, Sustainability, Politics”, interprets terms such as “environment” and “ecology” in metaphorical as well as literal contexts. The problems of climate change, mass extinction and environmental destruction are global in cause and impact. But how might our use of environmental and eco-critical terms and paradigms also allow us to understand theatre more fully and deeply?
The conference will attract a large number of international scholars: in recent years as many as 800 to 1000 people have been attending the conference.
IFTR Volunteer
The IFTR Galway Committee is looking for volunteers to assist with all aspects of the IFTR 2020 conference to ensure that it runs smoothly. Volunteers do not have to be based in Ireland to be considered for this programme, international applicants welcome!
Volunteers will be required for the duration of the conference (13th July- 17th July
2020) and some time for training and preparation prior to the conference (Arriving on either the 11th or 12th July, with all volunteers present by 1PM on Sunday 12th July).
Volunteers will receive free registration for the conference.
The conference offers an opportunity for you to work with a large-scale international event, as well as take part in lectures, panels and seminars in your field of interest. You will also have a chance to meet and network with international scholars and peers. At the end of the conference you will receive a certificate of experience for
future reference.
Volunteers will be asked to work with a variety of tasks related to the conference, such as orientating delegates between venues, excursions and social events; assisting with working group sessions; technical assistance; providing information for delegates and much more. You will also have time off from volunteering to engage with the conference and/or participate in some of the social and cultural programmes (for which fees apply) on campus and beyond if you choose to do so.
N.B. The official language of the conference is English. Additional language skills may be called upon when communicating with individual delegates.
