Malahide Allotments is a community project operated by the Epilepsy Care Foundation on the Swords Road, Malahide. The primary purpose of the project is to provide a community based environment which will provide respite and education for people with Epilepsy and their families. It consists of 300 allotments 75 of which are provided to people with Epilepsy and the balance are rented out to the general community. This will provide an opportunity for individuals with Epilepsy to integrate with the general community while also providing an opportunity for the community to have a better understanding of Epilepsy. Facilities on site include toilets, a community area and water supply. There is also a shop on site where a full range of horticultural products are available (compost, plug plants, topsoil, raised beds etc). We are always developing the allotments and would welcome your ideas and views, please visit this page often to keep up to date with news of our the project and its’ ongoing development.

THIRD INDUSTRIAL SIZED SKIP FILLED WITH RUBBISH - CLEAN-UP SUCCESS DOWN TO MAGNIFICENT MEN OF THE A-TEAM!

THE A-TEAM were back in action on Saturday when the third industrial size skip was filled with waste wood and other items.

The massive gated rear door skips saw a frenzy of activity around the allotments all converging at the back of the site for sorting and loading.

Mounds of wood were sorted onto pallets with careful loading allowing for the significant amount be loaded to max out the huge skip.

The tractor with its' heavy lifting ability played a big role but credit to all the volunteers who assisted in clearing up all YOUR waste wood which was heading for the dump for appropriate disposal.

Sadly, items such as ironing boards, barbeques, surf boards and other 'non-allotment items also found there way onto the allotments - clearly brought in and illegally dumped which just adds to the cost of ultimately disposing of such illegal items.

The work carried out in filling three massive skips has been enormous and Brian Geraghty went on record thanking all who contributed to the enormous effort in tidying up YOUR allotment with some difficult lifting and sorting.

"I am genuinely grateful to each and every person who assisted in the clean up over the course of a number of weekends. They have all been very selfless in giving their time and on behalf of all allotment holders, so I want to thank them for their efforts in the tidy-up," said Brian.

"These gentlemen have been brilliant in their commitment and efforts to ensure we can all enjoy the benefits of Malahide Allotments as a result of this great tidying up exercise and I indebted each and every one of them for their sterling work."

Added Brian: "Now that we have made such inroads into tidying up the site, I also want to warn all allotment holders that bringing any items of any nature - domestic, green matter, old metal and general household waste is strictly forbidden and if you do so, you run the real risk of terminating your lease without any recourse of appeal. "

Concluded Brian: The amount of 'non-allotment' items is simply scandalous and Malahide Allotments has a ZERO-Tolerance policy with regard to such breaches of your lease.
Abuse it and lose it is the simple message."

ALLOTMENT CLEAN-UP SUCCESS

TWO GIANT skips full - and all thanks to the great work of the A-TEAM volunteers for delivering a remarkable result.

It takes effort, lots of effort but to all those who took time to come down and fill to the brim - not one, but two massive skips. a MASSIVE thank you.

Last Saturday week and today the difficult physical work of lifting, clearning and hauling wood of all shapes and sizes - sheds, old raised beds, fences and other shapes all removed and deposited in the skips.

The tractor with its teleporter helped lift jute bags full of broken wood to the skip at the botom of the allot, ments. More was carried in a trailer which went round collecting other bits and pieces.

Team work works - and that's what the A-TEAM deliver time after time on behalf of all other allotment holders.

Whether it's driving the tractor, loading the skip itself or filling the trailer, it all helps to achieve the end result - and nothing happens if people don't volunteer and give up their time!

Said Brian Geraghty - ''It's important to thank each and every person who turned up to assist in the clearance and clean-up of the site. ''

''On behalf of all other allotment holders I thank you and commend your generous spirit and the time you gave to help others. We are all indebted to you for your sterling efforts.''

The trellis already in the garden might be the reason half the harvest never makes it, the right match takes 5 minutes to figure out 🌿👇
A string trellis holding pumpkins. A flimsy bamboo cage under indeterminate tomatoes. A flat panel that cucumbers can't grip. 🌿 None of these plants fail, the structure fails them. Matching trellis strength to crop weight is the single most overlooked decision in vegetable garden planning, heavier fruits need rigid metal or strong wood, light climbers need something to weave through, and heavy sprawlers need an arch strong enough to walk under. Four trellis types cover every climbing crop in any garden. The flat string
panel handles tomatoes, peas, and climbing beans — the grid spacing gives every tendril something to grab. The A-frame folds flat for winter and works from both sides. The cattle panel arch supports cucumbers, melons, and squash on each side, 4 to 5 vines per side, fruit hanging down for the easiest
harvest in the garden. The reinforced sturdy arch handles watermelon, butternut, and full-size pumpkins, the only structure with the weight tolerance for them.
💾 this before buying another trellis this spring.
