Hi folks

I was listening to a podcast recently, where Oprah was interviewing Byron Katie. I do believe that when things strike a chord with me I should share them with you, so here goes...

Katie works on the premise that there are 3 'businesses' in our lives:
1. My business
2. Everybody else's business
3. God / the Universe's business

Basically - all that you have to be concerned with is your own business. You can't control anybody else's behaviour, opinions or emotions. You can only control your own.
Likewise, you certainly cannot control everything that happens in life - ie God's business.

In addition, you cannot assume to know what other people think about you (though I suspect you give it a good go). Let me guarantee you this - more often than not, what you believe other people's thoughts and feelings are about you is not actually true!

Sorry to break the news to you, but people are too caught up in their own life to give you much thought - therefore STOP worrying about it!

Have a great week :)

Laura

P.S. Oprah has presented some great podcasts with the likes of Eckhart Tolle and Michelle Obama - they are defo worth a listen

Hi folks,

Overthinking and worrying can consume our lives. It's addictive and accumulative. The more we think and worry, the more thoughts are sparked off, which increases our thinking, which sparks off even more thoughts....and the snowball gets bigger and bigger and bigger.

My proposal is therefore this; make a decision that you will schedule out 15 minutes a day as your "worry period". Every time your worrying thoughts start to creep in, tell yourself "I'll worry about that during my worry period. It's not going anywhere so can be dealt with later". It'll take some practice but it will provide you with some relief. Note, you are not berating yourself for worrying, you are simply postponing it.

..And guess what happens when you get to your allotted worry period? The intense feeling has lessened and you don't feel the same need to worry. Great! Time has likely put things into perspective and you don't start to roll a new 'worry snowball'. In fact, you may even find you forget to have your worry period at all!!

We all worry, but more often than not what we worry about doesn't even happen.

Have a great week and I hope you worry a little bit less!

Hi folks

It's been a while! Hope you're keeping well and that you're enjoying living a life with less restrictions🥳

Did you realise that 40% of how happy you now are as an adult is within your control?! This is based on your outlook, your perspective and what you do with your time.

10% of how happy you are is attributed to your circumstances and what has happened to you outwith your control.

The remaining 50% is a result of your upbringing- so your parents and those that influenced you (what they taught you, including behaviours, values and beliefs).

So, no matter what your upbringing was like (whether good or not so good) YOU are control of how happy you are now! If you need to make changes to make yourself happier now is the time to do it 🙌

Talk soon!

Hi folks

Do you have 265 seconds to spare for a bit of 'me time'? (That's 4 mins 25 seconds by the way). If so, read on...

While out walking through the beautiful Scottish countryside, we took a wee breather. My mum suggested that the scenery and it's relaxing sounds would be great for practicing mindfulness. Hurray, Mum Yates, I taught you well!

So, without further ado, sit down comfortably and allow yourself 265 seconds to tune in to your sense of hearing and sense of sight. Notice the different trees, running water, sunlight, colours etc and just 'be'....and maybe give Mum Yates a wee wave 😉

Find the video attached, or click on this link for the video:

Or check out my YouTube channel - LiveNow Mindfulness & Wellbeing

Whatever is on your mind will be there in 266 seconds so for now, tune in to the Scottish countryside.

Have a great week
