We are very proud to announce that one of our amazing coffee producers Mount Elgon Coffee and Honey Co-operative won best coffee in the Pearl of Africa. They were competing against the top 12 Arabica Coffee producers.

The awards were only made possible through the hard work of the 700 smallholder members, and also by staff who train and empower farmer with the skills and knowledge to improve their farming techniques, promote agroforestry and the quality of their coffee and honey. Wonderful work they do that 80% of profits are invested back into sustainable practices to ensure food security, climate smart adaptation and increased household incomes.

We would also like to congratulate all participating Arabica coffee producers as they stand together and support each other.

Great day for Kazi Yetu Tanzanian Tea Collection. They are proud to announce they are moving into a brand new factory.

It is about 4 times the size of the last factory and has more place for better working conditions for their all-women team and will hopefully be organic-certified and ISO-certified soon! They also have a new tea packing machine in there, which will be able to make tens of thousands of biodegradable pyramid tea bags per day. As a result, they will be able to buy more from farmers, create more jobs for women, and have more of our Tanzanian tea competing globally!

As a social enterprise, Kazi Yetu reinvests a majority of profits into job creation and women’s economic empowerment. They are certainly making that more true today. Well done Kazi Yetu & team.

We continue to be a big fan of MIA chocolate.

MIA Introduces Chocolate Gift Back and Cashew Ginger Spice Bar.
Bean-to-bar ethical chocolate company MIA, short for Made In Africa, has added a Cashew Ginger Spice 75% dark chocolate (75g)to its vegan range. The new flavour is part of a new 3-bar Gift Pack (225g) and is also available as a standalone item.

From the cocoa to the sugar to the cashews and ginger, it’s great to see that MIA has utilised so many locally available ingredients for this bar, benefitting farmers on the one hand and the printers, box manufacturer, and chocolate making team on the other. It’s proof that great products can be made in Africa, creating meaningful social impact and delicious flavours at once.
