An Emotion Canvas helps you look beyond the steps in a customer journey and understand how people actually feel at each stage of an experience.

By mapping emotional highs, lows, friction points and support points, you gain a clearer picture of the customer experience, and often uncover opportunities for improvement that aren’t obvious when you’re only looking at the process.

Whether you’re designing a service, delivering a programme, or running your own business, this is a simple exercise you can use to see your experience through your customers’ eyes.

Sometimes the biggest improvements don’t come from changing what you do, they come from understanding how people experience it.

Have you ever mapped your customer journey from your customer’s perspective?

During our recent Sales Masterclass as part of the EMPOWER Elevate programme, delivered in partnership with the Local Enterprise Offices in Mayo and Galway, we explored the Emotion Canvas by applying it to our own programme rather than simply learning about the framework.

Mapping the participant journey together highlighted something important: no two people experienced the programme in exactly the same way. By comparing perspectives, we uncovered touchpoints we hadn’t considered, identified emotional highs and lows, and found opportunities to strengthen the overall experience.

The exercise reminded us that the participant journey isn’t defined by what we plan, it’s defined by what people actually experience.

How do you capture the real experience of the people you work with, rather than the one you intended to create?

Measuring outcomes is an important part of understanding the impact of any learning experience.

As part of the Summer Internship programme, interns completed confidence surveys before and after the internship using an app created by the Active Peers AI team to support the experience and measure participant outcomes. The results showed an increase in confidence across all seven areas measured, providing valuable insight into the impact of the programme.

Alongside the survey data, participants also shared what they enjoyed most about the internship. Their reflections highlighted the value of meaningful workplace experience, learning from colleagues, building professional relationships, and contributing to real projects.

Congratulations to all of the interns who completed the programme. We wish them every success as they take the next step in their academic and professional journeys.

Growth isn’t always obvious when you’re in the middle of it. That’s why reflection is a key part of our internship programme.

Throughout the internship, students complete reflective journals that help them recognise how they’re developing, not just professionally, but personally too. Taking time to reflect builds self-awareness, highlights progress, and often gives students the confidence to see just how far they’ve come.

As the 2026 intern programme is well underway we’re taking a closer look at what our students hope to gain from their experience.

On day one, we asked each intern what they hoped to achieve during their internship. Their responses showed a clear interest in gaining a deeper understanding of a company’s day-to-day operations, exploring career opportunities within the financial sector, building their professional networks, and developing key skills like public speaking and presentation confidence.

We use these insights to shape the experience, ensuring students have meaningful opportunities throughout the internship to explore their interests, develop new skills, and make valuable connections.

In this episode of Elevate Economics, we explore the relationship between the time you invest and the results you create.

You’ll be asked to track and categorise how you spend your time over the course of a week, then reflect on the outputs that came from those activities. ⏰

Which blocks of time generated meaningful results, and which felt like low-value or unproductive work?

By recognising these patterns, you can begin to shift more of your week towards high-impact activities and make better use of your most valuable resource. ⚖️

Running a business means constantly making decisions, solving problems, and carrying responsibility. But long-term success isn’t built on burnout, it’s built on wellbeing. 🌱

Here are 4 reminders for business owners and entrepreneurs:
1️⃣ Treat rest as part of performance, not something earned afterwards.
Rest isn’t time lost, it’s what helps you lead with clarity, energy, and consistency.

2️⃣ Reflection improves performance just as much as action.
Stepping back to assess what’s working can save more time and energy than constantly pushing forward.

3️⃣ Stress isn’t always harmful, unmanaged stress is.
Challenges help businesses grow, but without balance and support, stress can quietly affect both health and decision-making.

4️⃣ Clear priorities reduce overwhelm and improve focus.
Not everything needs your attention at once. Clear direction creates better results and more sustainable growth.

The strongest businesses are built by people who know how to sustain themselves, not just their workload.
