Grieving you is hard Dad.
No matter where I am, there you are.
I see you everywhere, in every Grandad that lovingly looks at his grandchildren or holds their tiny precious hands in his. Men who take your shape, a warm embrace, eyes full of divilment, laughter, someone suggesting a drink, going for a drink.
But then there's that void that quickly follows, that empty vacuum. That moment of almost joy remembering reality. Waking-up and for that first spilt-second not remembering. Then other mornings, waking holding the ten tonne weight of it all.
'Where are you now?' has to be my most asked question of you since 24th Sept when we lost you Dad. On a good day, I imagine all these beautiful feeling answers and they help to ease my pain for a moment or two and I love those moments. I try to stretch these as far as I can.
Christmas this year is one I want to bypass. I've been unable to be in the social media space for much of the later half of this year but I felt like I needed to today.
Thank you to everyone who has messaged and sent comforting words of condolences, who has sat with me and listened and who has just been there in a way I didn't even know I needed this past year. I'm so lucky to have so many incredible people in my life who help to remind me of the deep healing power of love.
Sending love to anyone grieving a loved one today and over the Christmas. You're not alone in it all, even though it can feel like it ❤️❤️💔.
