A team of Trinity College Dublin researchers has developed a fully automated system that eradicates bacterial contamination in hospital water tanks, distribution systems and taps. Findings from the April edition of Journal of Hospital Infection are now available online.

Dr Fiona McGillicuddy from the Conway Institute at University College Dublin wins the first successful award under the SFI-HRB Wellcome Trust Biomedical Partnership, a Research Career Development Fellowship of approx €750,000 over five years. She will investigate the links between obesity, 'good cholesterol', diet and coronary artery disease. Congrats to Eoin Farrell from St Eunan's College, Co Donegal who won the Health Research Board Special Award for his project "Paediatric resuscitation: How reliable are existing weight estimation methods in Ireland?" at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2012. Enda Connolly, CEO of the HRB presented the award.

The HRB invities Expressions of Interest to a new programme grant scheme aimed at generating relevant and timely evidence for health policy and/or practice in Ireland. A Collaborative Applied Research Grant in Population Health and Health Services Research could provide a research team with up to 5 years funding of €1.25 million.
