Refreshers week recap! 🤭
We had an absolutely fab refreshers week this week! Hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did! 🥳
On Tuesday we were in Astra Hall as part of UCD Societies Refreshers day and was great chance to chat to everyone who signed up! Shoutout to baby Chardonnay from namsoc for the entertainment beside us! 🎉
On Tuesday evening we also had a collab pub quiz in farmer browns alongside Germansoc, Erasmus Student Network, Archsoc, Frenchsoc, Japansoc and Philsoc! Congrats to our winners and if you liked this pub quiz, there may be another one to get excited for soon enough… ⁉️
On Wednesday we were back with our weekly coffee morning, however this time in Newman! Chats were had, TikTok’s were made (which I know you’re all waiting for in anticipation…) ☕️🍪
And of course our donuts and debates round 2! The merits of banning TikTok and crocs as socially acceptable footwear were debated, and a sweet treat at the end! 🍩
While our civil service panel had to be postponed for a little bit, don’t worry it’ll be happening! For the meantime we can’t wait to see you next week! 💙💛

Thank you to University College Dublin for reaching out to us to co-host this unmissable event today. PolSoc members were invited to UCD Cinema for a live-stream address by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy 🇺🇦

In his live stream address he detailed the impact of the Russian invasion and continued war on Ukraine and its citizens.
The livestream event at Cinema / UCD Student Centre was co-hosted by University College Dublin and UCD Politics and International Relations Society on behalf of the Embassy of Ukraine to Ireland .

Fantastic first day put down in the Freshers tent signing up so many new members to our society! Followed by our ’Meet PolSoc’ event where over 60 new students in UCD attended to find out more about the Society and what we do. Our committee members introduced themselves before our Auditor Lauren presented a slideshow about all things PolSoc. Our Senior Officer Sam then went through this week’s events which allow new students and aspiring PolSoc members to see what kind of events we run during the year. Thanks to all that came along today, and we can’t wait to see more new faces in the tent tomorrow- Friday from 9a.m.-4p.m. and at our speed-friending event in collab with other great societies and the Student Union! 💙

Meet Sam, our new Senior Officer!
Sam is in his 3rd year studying Politics & History. He enjoys reading, exercising, multiple pints, and rambling on about current affairs.

Meet Ciara, our Terrific Treasurer!
Ciara is in her final year of studying history and politics. She spent her 3rd year studying in Paris and won’t stop talking about it.

Meet Meriem, our secretary!
She is a final year student, studying politics and sociology. Her friends say that she’s dramatic but she didn’t win first place in her secondary school’s short film awards for nothing 🤷🏻♀️ .That makes her a top-tier actress but also a boss lady, who hates being asked what her favourite hobbies are. On a dull day, she likes to remind people that she’s Algerian.

Meet our vice Auditor, Alana!
Alana is a second year Politics/IR and History student. Self-proclaimed freddo-enthusiast Alana could most likely be found munching on Cadbury in Newman basement trying to scramble an assignment together 3 minutes before the deadline.
Alana's hobbies include offering unsolicited political opinions, dragging her friends to society events, and insisting not to be a relation of the Weasleys.
Alana is super psyched to get stuck in and welcome new people to PolSoc!

Meet Lauren, our Auditor!
She is a final year History and Politics student, who isn't long back from her Erasmus, where she spent 5 months in Sciences Po Paris studying Politics and International Relations and eating baguettes every. single. day. It has now become part of her personality. A loud and proud Tipp woman who likes to draw in her spare time, she is delighted to be spending her third year on the committee as Auditor of the society.
She is extremely excited to welcome members old and new back to PolSoc with the numerous wonderful events we have planned for the year ahead!

We are delighted to welcome SPIRe’s very own Professor David Farrell as Ceann Comhairle for our unmissable Mock Dáil event next Thursday, 31st of March in the Fitzgerald Chamber at 5p.m! Keep an eye out on our socials over the coming days for more info about the event and how YOU (yes, you!!) can get involved in the Mock Dáil 👀
