๐ŸŸข IFI advises that Galway + Erriff fisheries have both re-opened ๐ŸŸ Excessively warm water temperatures last week led the fisheries to be closed temporarily to all angling โ€“ including catch & release โ€“ to protect fish from potentially lethal heat stress.

โšซ Inland Fisheries Ireland ran an interactive โ€˜Something Fishyโ€™ event for 5th class children at Ahascragh, Co on Monday ๐ŸŸ Pupils participated in hand-on activities focused on Irelandโ€™s rivers and the importance of connected waterways - celebrating World Fish Migration Day.

๐ŸŸข IFIโ€™s National Barrier Mitigation Programme helped the pupils to explore the challenges faced by migratory fish, and learn how the restoration of rivers can protect and improve aquatic ecosystems.

๐Ÿ™ Thank you to all who helped make the day a success | .

๐ŸŸ Tomorrow is World Fish Migration Day ๐Ÿ‘‹ Meet some of Ireland's migratory fish: Sea lamprey; European eel; Atlantic salmon; & finally twaite shad, which all travel between Ireland's rivers and coastal waters to complete their life-cycle.

๐ŸŸข To survive and thrive, migratory fish must overcome challenges, such as adapting to the different environmental conditions in freshwater and seawater habitats, and escaping natural predators and threats posed by humans as they travel between salt and freshwater, crossing barriers on their journey.
