For international students at University College Dublin, a new city feels more welcoming when there's someone to turn to for advice. 🤝

Following the launch of this year's UCD Alumni Buddy Programme, matches have been shared with more than 250 international students. This year, 180 alumni volunteers are ready to answer questions, share their Dublin tips and help students settle in. There will also be social, cultural and career events where buddies can connect together.

Climate change, ageing populations and AI raise questions that cannot be answered alone.

At University College Dublin, students from UCD School of Education are exploring how to engage the public on issues such as trust in science. That spirit of collaboration was also central to a lecture by AI pioneer Professor Geoffrey Hinton, who spoke about living alongside increasingly capable AI and the need for international research into its safety.

University College Dublin alumnus David Leonard sees that change every day as President of Boston Public Library. Alongside caring for a collection of some 23 million items, he is thinking about how the library can help residents learn new digital skills and use AI to find information. For more complex questions, he says, human knowledge still matters.

What connects clinical trials, used coffee grounds and a century of agriculture at University College Dublin?

The Clinical Research Centre at UCD School of Medicine has helped more than 25,000 patients access new therapies and enhanced care. Student volunteers are growing oyster mushrooms from discarded coffee grounds, while UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science continues a century of agricultural education and research. Together, these stories show how UCD is working towards healthier people and a more sustainable future.

A new mentoring journey has begun at University College Dublin. 🤝🌍

The launch of the African Mentoring Programme: Bridging Generations marks the start of one-to-one relationships between UCD Alumni mentors and current African students. It's an opportunity to share experiences, talk through career choices and learn from one another.

"I see my art and curatorial practice as a way to explore and reflect on scientific knowledge and discovery." 🔭

Louise B**r grew up beneath the star-filled skies of Aotearoa New Zealand. After moving to England, she realised how light pollution could hide a night sky she had always known. Now, through her residency with UCD Science and Mayo Dark Skies, Louise is exploring what darkness means for wildlife and for the way people understand life on Earth.
