๐Ÿ’™ Our Blue Shirts Students are in Lourdes! ๐Ÿ’™

Towards the end of a busy first week back at school, three of our 6th Year students headed off to Lourdes for a very special experience!

They are our first-ever Blue Shirt students to participate in the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

Throughout the pilgrimage, the students have been assisting Deaf pilgrims at mealtimes, attending Masses and taking part in social activities. They also had the wonderful opportunity to sign a song in ISL during the Youth Mass. ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿ’™

A huge thank you to Ms. Newman and Mr. Dudley for accompanying and supporting the students on the trip.

What a wonderful experience for our students and a fantastic way to represent our school community! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‘

We hope they continue to have an amazing time in Lourdes and look forward to more updates!๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ™‚

Gillian Oโ€™Connor facilitated a fantastic pizza-making workshop at our Summer Camp! Using the gorgeous tomato sauce from Dough Bros in Galway, everyone got to create and bake their own delicious pizzas. The smell throughout the camp was absolutely divine, just like stepping into an authentic Italian restaurant! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡นโค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ŒA huge thank you to Gillian for such a fun and memorable experience. On the last day of our Summer Camp, all of our happy campers enjoyed a fantastic day trip to Emerald Park!

What made this trip even more special was the incredible support of so many wonderful people who helped make it possible. A BIG thank you to Michelle from Bus ร‰ireann, Ray from the Department of Education, all of our bus drivers and bus escorts, our amazing parents, and especially our dedicated Summer Camp staff leaders. Our staff generously volunteered an extra hour of their own time, free of charge, to ensure this day was extra special for all of the students. We are forever grateful to everyone who played a part in making this such a wonderful end to an amazing Summer Camp. Thank you all! โค๏ธ

Audiovisability is proud to have completed the research project โ€œThe Lived Experience of Young Deaf Musiciansโ€ exploring music education provision and the experiences of young deaf musicians aged 11โ€“18 today.

It was important to hear directly from young people about their instrumental lessons โ€” their experiences, what support is working well, and what could be improved.

The research findings and recommendations are available for music teachers, music service professionals, and audiology settings. To view the full research, please visit the link in our bio โ†’ Projects.

Ruth Montgomery says: โ€œThe most important take-away is that we should check in with young people every now and then". We are proud to share this research through presentations with:

BATOD - at their 75th Anniversary conference , , National Deaf Children's Society and more recently at the Tri-borough Music Hub SPARKS event, delivered in partnership with the RCM London, Royal College of Music, London, with many music services and organisations attending.

Thank you to everyone who attended these presentations and engaged with this important conversation. Contact [email protected] for any enquires.

Our Marine Touchpool experience was a huge hit with all the kids in the summer camp. The children had a fantastic time learning all about marine life through this fun, hands-on experience. They had the opportunity to touch and explore a variety of sea creatures, including real fish, while discovering more about the amazing wildlife found in our oceans.

It was wonderful to see their excitement, curiosity, and confidence grow as they asked questions and interacted with the different marine animals. A fun and educational experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed! ๐Ÿš๐Ÿฆ€ Thank you Eimear from Marine Touchpool it was fascinating and thank you Rebecca for interpreting.

Eimear also has some ISL!! She recently completed QQi level 5 with Irish Deaf Society Itโ€™s great to see this!
