🌟 Today, on World MS Day, we shine a light on Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and the strength and resilience of those living with this condition across Ireland and beyond.

MS is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, often causing chronic pain, fatigue, mobility challenges, and many other life-changing symptoms.

💡 Chronic pain is one of the most common and debilitating aspects of MS. When the immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves, it can lead to inflammation, nerve damage, and disrupted pain signals that impact everyday life.

💜 Raising awareness of MS and the realities of chronic pain is vital to improving understanding, support, access to care, and ongoing research.

At Chronic Pain Ireland, we are committed to supporting people living with chronic pain through education, advocacy, resources, and community support. Learn more about the supports available: https://chronicpain.ie/how-we-can-help/

Living with chronic pain? We’re inviting adults with chronic pain to take part in a research study exploring a Virtual Reality (VR) education programme designed to help explain what chronic pain is and how it can be managed.

The programme runs over five weeks and uses an engaging virtual environment - no long lectures and no prior VR experience needed!

By taking part, you’ll help researchers understand whether this approach can improve pain understanding, wellbeing, and quality of life for people living with chronic pain.

Jenny's invisible chronic illness has negatively impacted her life for over a decade. On the morning of her most recent doctor's appointment painful memories resurface... and the depth of the injustice she has endured becomes clear.

Katie Joan Maguire has directed this film with Aaron Oliver Kelly and it stars Siobhán Dunne as 'Jenny'. They state that "The film is very close to our hearts, we are making it to raise awareness of chronic pain and Invisible Illness and hope to open up a much needed conversation on the topic. Just because something can't be seen, doesn't mean it's not real".

🌻 This complimentary Sunflower Lanyard is issued to all members of Chronic Pain Ireland. The card is a specific Hidden Disabilities Sunflower for those living with ‘chronic pain’ and helps make an invisible condition a bit more visible.

💡 We often face barriers daily, including a lack of understanding and negative attitudes, and the Sunflower lanyard discreetly identifies that we may need support, help, or just a little more time in shops, transport, or public spaces.

🌎 The Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol for non-visible disabilities, also known as hidden disabilities or invisible disabilities. The lanyard is very useful when ✈️🚉 travelling or at those times where we may need a little extra time or some assistance. Some of our members have reported a greater level of assistance in a hospital setting, also.

Living with is challenging, as not only is there the pain itself to deal with, but also the impact pain has on every aspect of life.

🚨 Chronic pain is often invisible. On the outside, we might seem "fine" or "normal" while we experience excruciating pain.
