Chronic Pain Ireland Chronic Pain Ireland supports people living with chronic pain through education, advocacy, and community programmes. RCN No: 20028022

Proud winner of the Carmichael Good Governance Award for 2 years running, recognising excellence in governance. To create a greater awareness of Chronic Pain and to provide relevant information and support for those living with the condition, for their families and friends. Established in 1992, Chronic Pain Ireland CLG. is the only national organisation providing information and support services to people living with Chronic Pain. We are a registered charity, and we work with all stakeholders including those living with chronic pain, their families and carers, health professionals, students, researchers and others interested in chronic pain. CPI has demonstrated professional leadership in Ireland and throughout Europe by raising awareness of chronic pain, educating in methods of dealing with the condition, and advocating for the needs of people living in chronic pain. We advocate for multi-disciplinary treatment centres, improved health services and changes to the educational curriculum so that healthcare providers are more aware of the condition and the challenges of diagnosing, treating and managing the condition. We adhere to the principles of good corporate governance. We are transparent and compliant with all regulatory requirements. The Scheme to Support National Organisations is funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Rural and Community Development

CPI gratefully acknowledges SSNO funding and the ongoing support of Pobal and the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Programme and Scheme to Support National Organisations (SSNO) 2022-2025

๐Ÿ“ฃ Do you live with irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease, or both, and experience ongoing abdominal pain?

Researchers at the University of Galway are inviting adults in Ireland and the United Kingdom to

They want to understand peopleโ€™s real-world experiences of chronic abdominal pain and its management:

- Pain interference with daily life,
- Interaction with mood and stress,
- Overlap with other pain conditions,
- Treatments used (including cannabis-based medicines or products),
- Treatments which were most effective for pain.

By completing this anonymous 15-20-minute online survey, you can help
researchers better understand pain and treatment experiences and inform future
research.

Evidence Synthesis Ireland is running a free 6-week online course for members of the public, patients, carers and family members who want to get involved in health research.

It focuses on evidence synthesis: reviews that combine findings from many studies to give a clearer picture of what research shows. These reviews shape health policies, guidelines and people's own health decisions, so public input really matters.

Today, we recognise the value of lived experience and the importance of listening to people who know first-hand what it means to live with chronic pain.

Living with chronic pain can affect everyday life in ways that are not always visible or understood. The experiences of people living with pain offer valuable insight into the challenges they face, the decisions they navigate and the approaches that work for them.

Thatโ€™s why ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€.

The booklet shares personal experiences of movement and the different ways people have found to make it part of their lives. These stories remind us that there is no single approach that works for everyone - and that the voices of people living with chronic pain should help inform the resources and support available to them.

Thanks to new technologies, there are more and more digital tools that can support rehabilitation exercises. You can think of a mobile phone app that gives you feedback while exercising or a virtual reality headset that shows you how to perform your exercises. However, these tools are not widely used. That is why researchers at Tilburg University in the Netherlands are investigating:

โ€ข Whether people with chronic pain would use digital tools when performing rehabilitation exercises.

โ€ข Why they would or would not use these tools

๐ŸŒป This complimentary Sunflower Lanyard is issued to all members of Chronic Pain Ireland. The card is a specific Hidden Disabilities Sunflower for those living with โ€˜chronic painโ€™ and helps make an invisible condition a bit more visible.

๐Ÿ’ก We often face barriers daily, including a lack of understanding and negative attitudes, and the Sunflower lanyard discreetly identifies that we may need support, help, or just a little more time in shops, transport, or public spaces.

๐ŸŒŽ The Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol for non-visible disabilities, also known as hidden disabilities or invisible disabilities. The lanyard is very useful when โœˆ๏ธ ๐Ÿš‰ travelling or at those times where we may need a little extra time or some assistance. Some of our members have reported a greater level of assistance in a hospital setting, also.
