We are excited to present the latest group show from The Art Shelter ⚡️

The Art Shelter Collective is an artist-curator collective based in Dublin. Curated by Feride Görmez and Svenja Michelle Behle ‘The Smell of Wet Ashes’ will take place from October 8 until October 14 at Flux Gallery + Studios exhibition space in D2

This exhibition explores the relationship between the body and the space. Thinking about haptic perception and how bodies inhabit, feel, and transform space and how space in turn shapes objects, bodies, behaviour, memory, and identity. Inspired by John Giorno’s trans-disciplinary exhibition approach and will include dance, installation, expanded sculpture, visual arts through painting, print, photography, video and sound/performance in this show to question the splintered and faceted nature of body and space, and explore the boundaries between the two. If there are any?

Opening night event on October 8th, from 18:00 featuring:

Live sets by 2 DJs: Flying Fatima and sona
“EUSEXUA” Dance Performance choreographed & directed by Anastasiia Russ
A live show by the band: I AM THE MAIN CHARACTER

The exhibition will continue with a follow-up event featuring a dance and sound performance by Emily Aoibheann & Pink Thistle on Sunday, October 11th, at 3 pm in Flux Studios’ Gallery space.

Portrait Painting in Oils // A Weekend Workshop with Artist Nicholas Robinson // October 17 + 18

Painting the portrait is one of the longest traditions in oil painting; from van Eyck, Titian and Velázquez through to Reynolds, Romney and Raeburn and up to our present day.

Painting the portrait is a time honoured practice of the oil painter.

This 2 day workshop is designed to break down painting the portrait from the model into easily understandable principles.

The course will focus on;

drawing and design of the head and face
working with shadow and light to describe form
colour theory and mixing to describe colour and light
use of materials and technique in oil painting
conveying mood and expression to capture the personality of the sitter.

Course Fee: €250

* Some materials will be provided, though a small materials list will be sent to each participant.

Your Tutor:

Nicholas is a Florence Academy of Art prize winner and graduate.

Nicholas finished his post-graduate studies at Ireland’s National College of Art & Design (NCAD) in 2009, having previously graduated from the Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork. He was introduced to the American ateliers in Florence, in which students study exclusively from life, by the Irish painter Gearoid Hayes.

Subsequently Nicholas quit his teaching career and attended the Florence Academy of Art, Sweden under the tutelage of the Swedish painter Joakim Ericsson. Nicholas received a pair of drawing awards during his time at the school in Sweden and returned to Ireland in 2013. He is now exhibiting nationally, and works and teaches out of in his studio in Wicklow.

CULTURE NIGHT @ FLUX STUDIOS ⚡️

We’re back with one of our biggest nights of the year and we’re celebrating our 2nd birthday in D2!

On Friday, 18th September, we’re opening the doors of FLUX Studios D2 on Chatham Row for a special Culture Night celebrating the incredible artists and makers who make up our community.

FLUX is home to around 80 artists and makers, and we’re inviting you in to see what happens behind the studio doors.

Explore our Members Exhibition, wander through the building, meet artists in their studios, discover new work and get involved in free creative workshops in our Project Space.

There’ll also be live music from ‘ Grá ‘ from 7pm so make sure to catch them

We’re very kindly supported by Jameson Wh***ey Ireland and Rí Rá Irish L***r, and we’re hugely grateful for their contribution in making the night possible.
