A wonderful morning exploring the world of henna hand art. We were so lucky to have one of our parents, Manisha join us to decorate our hands. The children were fascinated with the practice and watched Manisha intently as she carefully drew each of their requests by hand. Very impressive! πŸ’•βœ‹πŸΌπŸ€šπŸΌ

The art of henna, also called Mehndi, is practiced around the world during special occasions such as weddings and cultural festivals. We learned today that henna or hina is a flowering plant and its dried leaves are the source of the henna dye. It's also very relaxing.

We had our very own Late Late Toy Show today. The children were very excited about bringing in a toy from home and showing it to their friends. It was very busy but lots of fun! We are so extremely lucky to share these incredible moments together πŸ’• ✨

It's pumpkin and mushroom season!!πŸŽƒπŸ„

We are spending our time exploring lots of colours and shapes in nature. To extend our learning we have also introduced the younger children to the wonderful dotty art of Yayoi Kusama. πŸ”΅πŸŸ‘πŸŸ’πŸŸ£βš« πŸŸ πŸ”΄πŸ”΅πŸŸ‘πŸŸ’πŸŸ£βš«

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist who was born in 1929. Kusama is sometimes referred to as the β€˜princess of polka dots’, and if you look at any of her artwork you can easily see why… Yayoi Kusama is dotty about dots! πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄

As a young child Yayoi loved drawing plants, flowers and trees. She found drawing helped to make her feel calm. She also loved to draw pumpkins & mushrooms. The children did an amazing job creating their own Yayoi Kusama inspired artwork.πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄ πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄

Happy Summer Solstice 🌞🌞🌞

On June 21, 2023, the Northern hemisphere will experience its longest day of the year. The word "solstice" originated from Latin word "sol" which means sun and "sistere" which means stationary or stand still.

Today has many names for those of the past and for those of the Present. Summer Solstice, Midsummer, Alban Hefin , the Seventh Station of the Year, and the Pagan festival, Litha.

Today some of the children experimented with a technique called 'cyanotype'. This is a photographic printing process that produces blue prints using coated paper and the sun. The children used various plants/flowers arranged on the paper. These were left to soak up the suns rays for 15 mins. Then we rinsed them in water to develop the image. This was really exciting to watch! β˜€οΈ β˜€οΈ
