With Bloomsday in sight, the Ulysses in 80 Book Club is inviting readers from all over the world to read and/or listen to James Joyce’s Modernist classic novel Ulysses over 80 days, tackling 10-15 pages a day from June 1st to August 19th 2026.

This is the fifth summer in a row for this book club to address itself to the James Joyce tome, and it is the first time events will take place in the US.

The project is led by Cliona O’Farrelly, a scientist at Trinity College Dublin who has read Ulysses 24 times and “still doesn’t understand it” and her friend Mark Sanford Gross, who is based in California and has never been to Ireland, but says he “gets” both Stephen Dedulus and Leopold Bloom (main characters in the book) “in his soul”.

Two series of in-person gatherings will accompany the 2026 reading of Ulysses in 80 Days—one in Dublin’s Docklands – at Trinity College Dublin’s dedicated community engagement space at Unit 18 on Macken St - and one in California.

Happy World Bee Day! 🐝

Did you know researchers are advancing their approach to
‘bee’ more specific when understanding pollination?

Moving beyond traditional monitoring methods that focus primarily on insect abundance, researchers at Trinity College Dublin, in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark, are looking into a critical gap by examining which species are actively responsible for pollination.

The research team has developed a novel radar-based technique capable of identifying insect species through their unique wingbeat signatures! Importantly, the system can operate at a local scale, enabling real-time monitoring of insect activity directly around flowers, and providing clearer insights into true pollinator behaviour.

POV: you’re an undergraduate in English Studies at Trinity 📚

Trinity researchers have discovered a lost copy of the first known poem in English - but do you know the full story behind Cædmon and his 7th century hymn?

Medieval manuscripts, like the one containing the poem uncovered in a library in Rome by our experts, are key to our understanding of the written word today. In fact, Caedmon’s Hymn is so significant that it is one of the first texts analysed by undergraduates in English at Trinity College Dublin.

Enjoy an exclusive, fly on the wall conversation between our students and their lecturers here at Trinity, on the back of this exciting discovery. Watch the full video over on YouTube now – direct link in our bio.
