RCPI Collegiate Members
The voice of trainees in RCPI. The Collegiate Members Committee (CMC) is seen as the ‘voice’ of Trainees in RCPI.
It represents Members of the College on College Council, the Basic Specialist Training Committee, the Irish Committee on Higher Medical Training and the Examinations Committee. Our goal is to represent Trainees’ interests and work towards improving training.

We have issued a joint statement with the RCPI Trainees' Committee (pictured) in light of issues arising from the outcome of the recent case in the UK against Dr Bawa Garba. Dr James Mahon, SpR and Chair of the RCPI Trainees’ Committee, said, “We work in systems that are frequently under severe pressures and under-resourced from a staffing, funding and infrastructural perspective. Despite often unsafe working environments, trainee doctors, who are at the frontline of acute medical care, continue to provide essential care to sick patients. We strive to achieve the highest possible standard of care for the people of Ireland. In our view, the College stands united with its trainees, in that a single trainee should not be held accountable for major systematic failures."

'Su***de is preventable, but we have to stop with the secrecy and face up to what it is about being a doctor that can be so emotionally difficult.
Healers, after all, also need healing.'
What I’ve learned from my tally of 757 doctor suicides There are some fixable explanations for the high rate for physicians and medical students.

Wishing all our Trainees, Members and Fellows in Ireland a safe changeover on Monday 8th January and the best of luck to all those starting in new posts, new hospitals, relocating, etc - It's not easy!
Being a doctor can be hard work, both physically and emotionally. Remember, if you're struggling you can find advice and information about physician wellbeing on our website here https://www.rcpi.ie/physician-wellbeing/
We advise all doctors to monitor their physical and emotional wellbeing, and to seek assistance early if you have any concerns or feel you are experiencing significant stress. It is important to adhere to the medical advice and management plans of doctors who treat you. You have a responsibility to yourself, your family, your patients and the healthcare system to take good care of your health.
