Here we have the cone of learning developed by Edgar Dale in the 1960's after years of research. As we can see "doing the real thing" has a retention rate of up to 90%. Whereas wat hing and listening is passive and has a very low retention rate around 30%.

When choosing a barber course make sure and find out if you are signing up to watch other barbers do haircut demos or if you will be cutting real hair everyday like we do at Irish Barber College. With our beginner students we provide so much experience doing the real thing that most have immediately gone on to work in some of Ireland's most well known barbershops.

As a leading barber training provider in Ireland it is important for us to understand each individual students learning style. Some learn best by listening, some have to observe every step, while others have to do it to learn it. At Irish Barber College we generally focus on training through "doing it". But, the fact is that we need all three styles to truly progress in our barbering journey: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. While most are typically stronger in one area than another, the trick is figuring out the preferred style and capitalizing on those strengths.
