Speech & Drama classes for ages 4 yrs - 18 yrs. Improvisation, Mime, Storytelling, Duologues, Monol
Speech class can be more formal than drama, the emphasis is still on learning through enjoyment. Games and exercises including tongue twisters and speech exercises are used to improve breathing, voice production and projection. The children are taught the correct use of language and appreciation of words through storytelling, poetry, monologues and duologues. Through this course they learn that sp
eech and body language is the predominant medium through which they communicate everyday. The emphasis in this class is on improving diction, clear speech, breath control and confidence building leading to a well projected, resonant voice. They learn to express themselves with self – confidence in a fluent and assertive manner. At the end of each year their progress is examined through set texts. Drama class is planned as enjoyment for students and it becomes an imaginative and artistic forum for expressing themselves. Their full active participation and involvement observing others is part of the learning method. The children are stimulated throughout the class and the end result comes from within themselves. Drama helps to develop a child’s appreciation for self discipline, self confidence and social awareness. The classes include structured work, such as preparing for the Irish Board of Speech & Drama exams (this is optional), and creative, free-flow work, such as in-class improvisation and role play.
