General information

Why did I design the books?
Research has shown that literacy books for adults encourage the student to learn the way able-readers do. This Book Series aims to offer an alternative option and presents it in a grown-up formula.

These books are designed to reflect the needs of the adult student reader, hence the focus on simple design and limited instructional text. Although these books can be photocopied, the user will need to take into account that the original word books are printed on pale coloured sheets of paper for good reason, to offer the adult reader a more satisfying and comfortable reading experience.

You will see that the general layout of the pages are different from those of conventional word books. There are limited instructional texts as well as less images and headings. Students often remark on the difficulty of looking at word books which are text heavy. You will also note that as the books progress through the series, there is less repetition. Please note that to get the best out of the word books, it is important to take on board the tips given in the Using the Word Books page.
