A huge thank you to everyone who joined us today to explore where a passion for sport can take you.

From Sports Therapy and Sports Coaching & Physical Education to Physiotherapy, today was all about giving future students the opportunity to hear directly from the people who know these pathways best.

A special thank you to all of our speakers who shared their knowledge, experiences and guidance throughout the day, and to our student speakers who gave an insight into what studying at Portobello is really like.

We hope everyone who attended left with a clearer picture of the opportunities available, the different pathways into a career in sport and, most importantly, what their own future could look like.

From the service desk to Director of Facilities at Apleona, Stacey Kelly’s career shows what progression in facilities management can look like.

Early in her career, Stacey was gaining practical experience every day, but wanted the theory and professional knowledge to match. She chose to study facilities management with Portobello Institute while continuing to work full-time.

That decision became an important step in her progression. Soon after qualifying, Stacey moved into a Facilities Manager role and continued to progress through Contracts Manager and Associate Director before becoming Director of Facilities in 2026.

Today, Stacey is still learning, developing others and looking towards the next stage of her own professional journey.

Demand for occupational therapists in Ireland is growing but what’s driving that demand?

From changing population needs to the continued development of primary, community and specialist services, Occupational Therapy has an increasingly important role to play across Irish healthcare.

And the figures tell a compelling story. ESRI workforce projections indicate that HSE primary and community care services could require an additional 300-383 Occupational Therapist WTEs by 2040.

These projections point to a profession that will remain an important part of Ireland’s evolving healthcare workforce, supporting people across a wide range of settings and stages of life.
